hey im going home from school this weekend and plan on talking to my mom about getting a corn snake from a pet store where one of my good friends works in(reason being that she loves animals n i know she wouldn't let people take bad care of any animal in the store). she sent a picture of the snake to my phone today and once i get the OK from my mom the snake will be mine haha......
now my question is when i go back up to school how should i pack my new snake to take the 3 or so hour drive up to my house at school?
........thanks a lot for the help in advance im really excited about getting a snake used to have a bearded dragon till i hadda give it away when i went to college n couldnt have pets in the dorms

Welcome and congrats!

Are you driving in a climate controlled vehicle?
Are you planning to drive straight through?
Is it a hatchling or an adult snake?

Well I would say pick up the snake the day you plan on heading back to your house..this way it's not going from one place, just getting ready to calm down just to be transported to another place..

Keep it in whatever kind of carry case you plan on getting for it and make sure it's in a dark area of the car (like on the floor or maybe put a light sheet or blanket over it..something to make it feel secure)...make sure to keep your car at a comfortable temp. (anywhere in the 70's is okay..)..then just put the tank and supplies in the back seat and start your trip..

Once you get back to your house set up the tank (make sure ya get an under tank heater to warm up one side of the tank..and also make sure to have a rheostat or thermostat to control the UTH as un-controlled ones can get to over 100 degrees within an hour..very dangerous)..anyway..set up the tank and place your snake in the tank..leave your snake alone for the next 5 to 6 days to let him adjust and get comfortable with his new home..then take him out to feed him his first meal..after he eats it immediately put him back in his tank and don't bother him for at least 2 days so he can digest..after that you can start handling him..start with short time incriments and increase the time as he gets better with the handling..best of luck to you :0)

thanks so much yea its pretty much a hatchling i believe i guess ill find out when i get to the store tho and stuff but im very excited ill get some pictures in i guess a week or so once it eats n digests im very excited to have my first snake haha that is of course after talking my mom into letting me get one but i did it to get the bearded dragon so shouldnt be too hard haha

Good luck with convincing your mum :)

Fortunately my mum likes snakes so I didn't really need to convince her to allow me to have one :D
