hello everyone, my names Daniel, im 22 from washington state. i have yet to purchase a snake but im almost at that point but just can't decide what i would like to get just yet. i have also had limited luck finding places in washington to get an idea of what my local selection is (suggestions would be greatly aprishiated) so far its petco, some have almost no snakes others have kings, milks, pythons, and corns. I'm here mainly to get some experience based answers from snake owners. i find that to be the best advice, and learning from others with personal experience sometimes counters the speal im told at the pet store by the sales person. im currently keeping a three fish tanks one 125gallon tank with two oscars and a firemouth, and two 29gallon tanks one with african cichlids and the other a planted rainbow tank. pretty much a fish nut. now thats spilling in to snakes so i know i wont end up with just one. the hurdle at the moment thats preventing me from purchasing a snake is tank size being a fish keeper i want to go very large with a large footprint so i can get more fish into it if i dont do well with snakes. for my taste its hightanks for better viewing and while sitting and wide tanks that provide better surface air contact allowing more carrying capacity. .....sorry a bit of topic there. any way petco has a nelsons milk snake thats really attractive and a albino banded kingsnake thats neat as well. i like look of the anerythristic corn snakes but havnt seen any pictures of them as adults i have read that their colors may change in to a browner snake when adults. i also like the motley pattern but havent seen a combo of those traits at the petstore or and adult image online. is a hurricane and motley corn snake the same thing? what kind of color change could be expected for a small corn thats anerythristic and has a motley pattern when it becomes mature?

Hi, I have corns, a king (Ca. Baha), and a ball python. All are good snakes to start with. My corns have the best personality out of all of them. Have you ever been to corntopia.com? Kathy Love is a big corn snake breeder and has a ton of pic on her website http://www.cornutopia.com I got her book and it has great info in it.

You can't really buy a tank to big, even for a baby snake (IMO) they will grow into it. Plus a bigger tank you can really get wild with the furnishings but would be harder to clean.

Good luck!

Michelle

I prefer something with more surface area. The majority of the time my corn will find itself on the ground usually in a hide or form of shade. I recently upgraded him to a 40 gal critter cage by all glass aquariums. For now I dont have much more space to house him in anything else. The more things they have to explore makes for good exercise too!
