Sorry for the long thread all just got a few questions:D

This is my snakes new home

MySnake009.jpg

Now i got this little cave which sits on the heater and i just wanted to check this isn't the caves which can get over 100 farenhait is it,that is the closed in ones isn't it :shrugs:

MySnake008.jpg

finally i could only get the thermostat and digital thermometer leads in by cutting a little hole in the front of his home i made sure there is no sharp edges and i held the leads in place outside by tape does this seem ok

Hope it looks ok and most importantly i hope he likes it i tried to give him a hide in the cool and warm area and ofcourse his water bowl in the middle:D

just wanted to say the hole is only as big as the leads and not the size of that tape lol i just put it on quick and need to remove the excess:)

If you have something regulating your temps, and place your thermometer probe inside the hide, you should have no problem maintaining it at the correct temperature.

Love the water bowl!

Here's a picture of my Snakes home. The probe to measure inside is just infront and below that firdt rock and if you look outside down the side you can see the digitital thermometer i have left it there at the back to get a kind of reading of the cool end as i could think of nowhere to put it.

anyway someone told me thermostat markings for temperatures ain't always spot on so try lower temp first and work your way up.So i have set it to 80 and now here is the weird part

inside reading 79.1
outside reading 83.6

now i am not that clever but surely they must be the wrong way round as i can't see how the reading inside under that aspen can be 79.1 while outside is 83.6 :shrugs:

Has anyone got one of these that could maybe shed some light.now all i can think is it is switched and by inside reading they mean inside the unit and by outside they mean along the cord and where the probe is :shrugs:

Help greatly appreciated

I wouldn't use tape anywhere inside the viv. If it comes loose and the snake gets caught up in the tape, it can get nasty. I use cable ties to hold the probe wires together.

Yes, it is switched. The "IN" temperature means the temperature at the main thermometer unit, the "OUT" temperature is the temperature at the probe.

It's an indoor/outdoor thermometer. The normal useage is to mount the thermometer inside your house and run the probe outside. So "out" is the probe temp.

I did not put the tape inside Flagg it is just on the outside holding the probe wires inline and just covering a few millimetre gap there is where i drilled the hole for the probes:D

Thanks for that Janew and Flagg i got confused as the one for my aquarium works in reverse to that:)

I am still playing around trying to get the thermostat set properly but at the mo these are the readings and what they are fluctuating by hope these are ok.

Inside his home temp drops to like 83 heat mat comes on it goes up to 86.6 but i trying to get this so max goes up to 85

And outside is ranging from 77 to 80

Does this seem ok:D

I would move the viv so it covers a little less of the heat mat, that way you might get better cool-end temperatures. You may well get less fluctuation if you fixed the thermostat probe to the actual mat, rather than the floor of the viv. I've always found that to work best. Place your thermometer directly over where the thermostat probe is.

Good luck! Once you've got it properly set, you'll not have this trouble!

That's nifty...running the lines in from the side. You know what I might do, once I had everything set the way I wanted...I think I'd silicone the hole there. Might be more difficult to remove, but it would save the tape drying out and falling off. Just a thought. I love the caves...might have to go shopping now.

Thanks Boo:)

Yeah it looks ok i only done it that way as if i done it through the top the lid would not sit right and he could easily get out.It is only short term as soon i want to get a viv for him:)

As for the caves yeah they are cool but be careful what one's you get and monitor the temps as some of them work like an oven and see temps over 100 farenhait.
