New Homes, New Questions

TVM Reptiles
Well, wanted to build a display for my snakes, but as money for that is a bit down the road, decided to move them all into sterilite tubs. Which I must say is looking better than expected!!

Now, onto the questions...What do you use for hides in these tubs?? As it can't be anything too tall, which is why I'm not using what I had before. Do they really need a hide, as they have the aspen to bury themselves in??

Also about venting...My husband and I drilled about a million holes in the lids, and I'm sure that's okay for air. But what about humidity?? Generally we live in a really dry area, but we also have 2 swamp coolers going in the house, and that raises the humidity a lot. I don't want them to get wet!! I haven't seen any condensation, but then it's been less than 24 hours. Also, I was worried about the snakes rubbing their noses raw on the holes...Is this a problem for anyone else?? Is there anything I can do to prevent that??

Umm, I think that's about it, at least for the moment...

Oh, just got to say I got 3 more this weekend!! I'm so happy!!! Still far away from what a lot of you have, but I keep collecting slowly...

Thanks in advance everybody!!!

A variety of things. The ends of the fridge coke 12 packs, half logs, and coconut hides.

The lids? I'd advise drilling holes in the sides. The lid will clearly be flush against the bottom/top of the shelf above it, so there will be minimal airflow there. If humidity becomes a problem, add more air holes to the sides.

Thanks Joe!! Umm, we don't have them stacked on shelves, they are stacked on top of each other, with a 1x1 board on each end, to raise them up a bit, so they are not directly on top of each other...Geez, I hope that made sense!!! *LOL*

Also, I forgot to ask earlier, how do you heat these things??...somehow I don't think I will be using the lights that I did previously!!

I use a 60w red heat light from the petstore specifically made for reptiles. That does the job well enough. Temps in my rack never drop below 75. Seems like when you've got a bunch of snakes in a rack it holds the temps pretty well.

You can use heat tape if you wish, though.

I used an old Kleenex box with a small access hole cut in the side. I use UTH's attached to a piece of glass under each of my rubbermaid tubs. I have holes drilled in the sides, and they stack one on each other.
