Hey guys/gals, not sure if ya read my thread in the behavior section, but ive lost 2 corns in about a month. I bought these from Petsmart and both was ill with URI :(. Well the good news is Petsmart no longer sells corn snakes thank the lord.. And my 2nd good news im the new owner of a California King. I know this is "cornsnakes.com" but i figured a reptile lover is a reptile lover :)

Ive had him since the 20th and so far he is great. i did not buy from petsmart but from a buddy of mine who was no longer able to keep him. So far hes healthy has eatin each time still on pinkies, every 5 days, very aggressive feeder. hes maybe just over a foot long.

Anyone else on the forums own kingsnakes and any advice?

Thanks.

Lots of people here have kings. I have two, one is in my avatar. I keep them the same way I keep my corns. Mine are a little on the spazzy side, and I've been bitten half a dozen times at least by my yearling. Corns seem to be a bit more laid back. If you check the search function above, you'll find a lot of king info. I really enjoy keeping them. Best of luck with yours!

Cool ill try to search, thanks..
I plan on getting a corn i love the morphs. but i wanna see how i do on the king so far everything is nice and smooth... ill get some pics up!

I have a king.....and many corns! I have only had my king for a month so I'm far from able to give advice! My girl is an Apalachicola king. If you do a search under "Maytag" you can find her picture.

I am so glad you haven't given up on corns. Shipping does drive up the cost, but buying from a breeder is definately the way to go! There isn't a fortune to be made breeding corns, so breeders tend to be people who are passionate about the species. I know I'm pretty passionate about the species :) Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your luck with the corns. I have a bunch of corns and 4 kings. They are some of the best feeders and all around great to have. Congrats on your new one! :) Post us some pics soon.

Best advice - don't buy from Petsmart! Even seemingly healthy & readily feeding animals that I've bought from there have suddenly died on me. I don't know how, but that seems to be a common track record across the country.

Kings are almost as common as corns though. I would say that over 75% of us on this forum have or have had Kings. In many ways, I think they top Corns. Then again, the scales can tilt the other way too. I have half a dozen different Kings of varying species. I adore them! Sometimes, their "flighty" nature makes them all the more endearing. They are just as hardy as the Corns IMO, and in some cases are easier (especially due to their voracious appetite).

I look forward to seeing your little Cali!
