Hi all.

I found this forum while googling how to thaw a pinky.

So a little background. I have had a severe, I mean severe phobia of snakes since a young age. I am now 33. Over the past year the phobia has calmed a bit. I went to a reptile zoo around thanksgiving for a child's birthday party. I told the owner I had a phobia and a half hour later I was holding a huge albino Python.

The feeling of being able to control my anxiety was amazing and I thought he was beautiful.

Two weeks ago I went to my local reptile store to just hold some snakes. I wound up going home with a baby corn. My best friend had a tank with a heating pad underneath she said she'd give me.

I don't know if the corn is a boy or girl but I made her a girl and named her Aurora after sleeping beauty. I love Disney... My cat is Hannah Belle.

I love handling her and she's sweet. I freaked last week when I was told she is used to live pinkys so I'd probably have to keep that up. I went to another reptile store today and got three frozen ones. She took it thank god!!!!

But that's me!

She is a very pretty snake. I had the same response until I actually held one too. I haven't purchased one yet, but hope to in the near future. Have fun!!

Thanks! She was only 35 bucks and with a free tank from my friend it was a no brainer.. My friend said she has a bigger tank too I can take. Now I just have to buy pinkys for her and that's all.

If she took a frozen thawed pinky with no trouble, I would recommend keeping her on them from here on. Even though it's natural for them to kill and eat their own prey, nothing about the way we keep corns in captivity is natural anyway, and feeding pre-killed rodents is a bit more humane. When she gets bigger, older mice will be able to fight back and could injure her, so it's best to get her used to frozen now.

She's good on frozen! She actually took another one. I was told to give her two by a herpetologist. I couldn't kill another live one. And yes I was told older mice bite back so I'm glad she's accepting frozen.

Congrats on your new snake. Very pretty. If you need any help don't hesitate to ask. Also, read all that you can. There are many articles, stickies and old threads here that will give you a lot of information. If it's confusing or contradictory, feel free to ask for clarification. Glad you are here. Welcome to the forum. :wavey:

I am new to snakes as well! Congrats! Since you were researching how to thaw a pinky, you must've done your research, which is great. As mentioned above, dethawed mice are much better than live. In addition to the reasons above, you also don't have to take care of frozen mice (if live mice were better, I by no means would use frozen instead of live just because they are easier, not having to take care of them is just a bonus).
