New member! - what does 1.0.0. mean?

Hi,

New member here, a little confused about the terminology used , i.e.
0.0.1 amel, 1.1.0 snow, 1.0.0. butter.

I've had corns for about 3 years now, currently 4 snakes. Hoping to have my first try at breeding now.

Thanks!
Rob

Hi Rob!! Welcome to the forum.

1.0.0 Boy
0.1.0 Girl
0.0.1 Unknown

So Lenny (I am assuming that is who you took it off of :) ) Has an amel that he doesn't know the sex of, a boy and a girl snow and a male butter.

Yep, usually the third number is left off if there are no unknown sexes.
So it would just be 1.0 for a male, or 0.1 for a female.

It isn't used much on this site but if there is a 4th number, that refers to unhatched, good eggs that a person has. It is used quite a bit on some of the gecko forums I belong to.

Hi, and thanks for the welcomes and answers!

Pictures?! Well I better get some! so far we may have taken a couple of pictures of people holding the snakes, but I promise I will take some more shots of the snakes!

So I'm gonna go out on a limb and identify the morphs we have:

2010 1.0 Bloodred or do we prefer Diffused?
2010 0.1 Charcoal Diffused -> pewter?
these 2 are from the same clutch, also het for other goodies. I don't have their cards in front of me.

~2006 1.0 (unproven) Normal - any hets unknown (rescue animal)

2009 0.2 (unproven) Amel

The last one is the one we want to breed now. Which male should I use? the 2 year old is still a little under 200 grams. Should I test the 2006 Normal? This is our first attempt at breeding.

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks again,
Rob

I guess it depends on the het on your bloodred (you can say either bloodred or diffused) whether I would use him or not.

Well it is a real possibility that you are just going to get all normals no matter what pair you do but if you are just looking to get your feet wet then I might do the normal with you amel girl. You normal might just be het amel then you would at least get normal and amels. And you might get lucky and them both be het anery then you could get normal, amel, anery's and snows.

Unfortunately, I would plan for all normals no matter which boy you choose but if you go with your normal at least you know he should be sexually mature.

Thanks Christen, I like your answers!

The big boy is definitely mature enough, but I hope he'll be up to it soon. You see, he was an escapee for 3 months! We found him skinny as a rail and freezing cold in the basement just last Friday. After warming up for a day (he ignored food the first day) he ate 2 adult mice and he pooped 4 days later. I'm giving him 2 more tonight.

My snakes are in a room that is cool most of the time, so I hope they still have time to wait for breeding for a couple of weeks?

Thanks again,
Rob

Oh yeah with out being brumated or anything like that they might not even be ready for a couple more months. I have had snakes not be ready all the way up till May.
