So my corn is about 6 months now...

I used to be able to find him hidden in these thick vines on occasion.
or else he would be burrowed.

but for the last month or two, she has either been burrowed or in this newly added coconut hide. SHE IS OBSESSED WITH THE HIDE. she doesn't burrow in it, just IS in it.

So I was kinda confused and sad that she doesn't come out anymore, I guess because I started feeding every 5 days, as opposed to a week.

Also, I have never seen her drink, other than when I put her back in the tank and hold her above the water dish...

However, tonight, I go in and she is semi out of burrow, DRINKING!!!
then I go in 5 mins later, and shes somewhere else in the open
10 mins later, still out
hour later still around

and her next feeding (5th day) would be thursday night

any explanations?

Mine will do the same thing. Won't see him for days, then I will be watching tv in the room with his light on and he will be runnin around climbing and having a great time. I don't think you have anything to worry about :)

It is completely normal for them to hide all the time especially during the day. Normlly you won't see them drink but as long as there is clean water for them they will drink when they need to. The reason she is so active now is most likely because she is hungry and is in search for food. A lot of my corns get antsy a day or two before feedings, it's normal.

Corns are secretive, and are rarely out in broad daylight. It's rare that you see them in the open as often as you'd like. Don't be concerned about whether you see her or not. Just make sure her lid is secure so that if she burrows and you don't see her for a few days, you don't have to worry that she's escaped.

They usually come out and start searching for food when they're hungry, and while seeing your snake drink is unusual, they generally almost always get some water a little bit after feeding if you hang around and be patient. If you don't see her drinking, it doesn't mean that she's going to die of thirst. She drinks, so don't worry about not seeing it and certainly don't try to force her to drink.

We never see our snake during the day, and sometimes we'll see her at night. She doesn't really burrow any more, she stays in her hides, however after we feed her she almost always burrows, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Ya, I was just curious to know what might have caused it. Shes 6 months, I have had her for 4ish...and shes never been so out in the open, not to mention for sucha long period of time. Hopefully she's getting more comfortable being out..

I am not getting my hopes up tho..

You might go ahead and get your hopes up. Some do become more visible when they're comfortable with their home. Once they learn that they're safe, some regard the whole viv as a hide if they're not digesting or getting ready to shed.

I'm wondering though, why you switched to a 5-day feeding schedule. What size prey is she on?

my corn stays in his cave hide on the warm side constantly but doesn't burrow because I don't have aspen anymore. I use reptile carpet just because for me it's the easiest thing to take care of that still looks nice. But 9 times out of 10 when i check up on him he's curled up in his cave hide on the warm side but i do occasionally get to see him take a drink or hangout in the hanging plants and vines for a bit :) but all in all your snake is just being a snake and should be fine. hope this helps some

Well when she was tiny, I had her eating every 7 days. After a little while I got impatient with her growth..

And the munson plan says 5-7 days or something. at the time I think she was around 10-11 grams.

That was awhile ago, and she has definitely grown, mostly in length, and just the same girth just more of it.

And I always play the safe side in terms of size of food. But she has definitely gotten longer but hardly wider, so I assume double pinks is the right thing to do. but I don't think double pinks will be done every 5 days with mine...

Yesterday was the second time I have done doubles, and both times she has taken them fine, but the first time, she refused to eat when her next feeding came around, but after a few more days she ate lol

So we'll see

Sounds like you have the same problem I have with some of my burrow loving Tarantulas.. give them a great place to hide and then never see them again!

People who complain about not seeing their snakes either have 1) young snakes, 2) Keep them in glass vs. plastic bins, or 3) aren't very sneaky.

As long as you have the correct temps in your tank and the essentials don't worry too much for your snake's health. As she gets older she'll be less shy. Try waving a mouse in front of her cage and see if you can coax her out of that hide!

If all else fails, at least you can always take her out and handle her for a bit. ;)

my corn never use his hide.....he just stay at the conner next to his water bowl or hide

and yes, his hide is big enough for him....
