New Rescue Fosters

Snakewhisperer

Reptiholic
So a friend of mine runs a reptile rescue, and last night took in part of a snake collection after someone got evicted. He tells me he has a yellow corn, some kings, and some bulls. Well, I get there, and the yellow corn is a yellow rat snake who is stressed beyond reason and biting everything :twohammer, 1 florida king, 2 baby fox snakes, 6 adult bulls and 1 juvi. So I have taken in the baby foxes, yellow rat, and bull to get them eating and happy. From what I can tell they were not taken care of very well by the original owner, but hopefully i can get them acting normal.

Awesome, I'm glad you are taking part in getting these snakes into a good home. Good luck with it.

Good for you. Thanks for taking them in. I've never heard of fox snakes before. Are they native to the US?

This is what wikipedia says about them... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Snake

This part has me a bit worried:
The state of Michigan lists the eastern fox snake as threatened, largely due to habitat loss. In Ontario the eastern fox snake is listed as threatened and protected by the Species at Risk Act (SARA). The extent of their decline is currently the subject of study by biologists at Queen's University. The western fox snake is listed by the state of Missouri as endangered due to prairie loss and wetland drainage.

Are they even legal to have??

It depends on your state. I like Rough Grass Snakes, but since they are native to Indiana, you can't buy one here. The DNR website says "All reptiles and amphibians native to Indiana are protected by law."

That said, I'm sure people own them, I'm just not a catch it and take it home gal, so I gotta be able to buy it!
