Hey! I just got my snake last sunday. Her name is Ember. I dont have enough money to buy a baby snake and a band new setup so i bought one that came with a setup. Shes 9 years old. I also have a question.. She just hides all day and i want to hold her but i cant get her to come out. I figured i shouldnt just pick up her hideout but how would i get her to come out? Also how do you know when they want put down? I dont want to overhold her and make her not like me. What should i do?

Thanks!

Just pick up the hide and pick her up. As long as you aren't doing all the time, like multiple times a day. This one faze her one bit.

Corn snakes are naturally nocturnal and tend to hide most of the day. With time your new snake will get used to you and your routine - one of ours that we use for education sometimes "nips gently" at us letting us know she has had enough for the day :)

yeah hiding is kind of what they do :)

I know some people prefer not to take their snakes out of their hides, but honestly, if I didn't do that, I'd rarely see any of mine.

Do you know if she was well handled where she lived before?

I would handle her for five/ten minutes each day, let her get used to you. If your hides doesn't let you get at the snake easily, and you want to handle, my best suggestion would be another hide :)

Our yearling doesn't seem to mind having her hide picked most of the time and enjoys being handled. When she's being grumpy she beelines for the other hide. We leave her alone when she does that. After rehoming we're about 2x15 minute handling sessions a day and she's not aggressive or skittish at all. She hides most of the time to be honest. Once the lights are out and things are quiet she comes out on her own a bit. I'm still a newbie at this so I'm trying not to give a lot of advice but it sounds like yours is acting pretty normal.

Hello and welcome! ^They've all said about everything I would to your questions.^
