Sweet little amel you have there! The pic you used for your avatar is fantastic! And welcome to the world of cornsnakes! You'll soon discover just how addicting they are! If you ever have any problems or questions, please don't hesitate to ask on this site. Don't forget to use the search function...tons of info to be found that way.

the snake is a male and we have narrowed it down to three names...

1) Ophiuchus...pronounced off-e-o-cus for the constellation which means serpent holder

2) Nemesis...all know what that means

3) Masubi...which comes from the japanese word Ho-Masubi which means fire god

I think we are leaning towards #3

Welcome, fellow Floridian.
Love the color on your amel.

Excuse the dumb question...I see everyone refers to the snake as an amel...is that an abbreviaton for something...what does amel refer to???

Amelanistic=lacking melanin, which makes a snake that is red, orange, and white. :)

Since you are new I will eloborate on Joe's response.
Melanin is responsible for the blacks, and browns you see in normal corns.
An Amelanistic snake lacks melanin which makes the other colors appear more intense. They are sometimes referred to as red albinos, which I personally hate.
Anerythristic is the opposite, but we'll save that for lesson 2

Masubi...love the name! And you've got yourself a "striking" little fella there! My friend has one in that color pattern that is about 10 yrs. old. After his shed we'll get a pic so you can see what he'll look like when he's all grown up!
