New (soon to be) snake owner!

Hi there! I've been reading up a storm on there the last few days, and it looks like a great forum! I've always loved snakes and always wanted one, but my mom has always been terrified of them, so it was never an option, and when I finally got my own place, I was too broke, lol. But, years later, I am finally in a position to get my first Corn snake, and I'm going to pick the little guy/girl up tomorrow! The breeder works at our local zoo, and has 2 red albinos and 1 normal hatchling left. Still haven't decided which I will get, but I'm very excited! I'll be starting the little guy out in my 10 gallon tank, and upgrading him/her to my 25 gallon as he/she grows.

I also have a Pug and 3 Axolotls, and I'm looking forward to participating and learning from all of you here!

Welcome! I would get the amel (albino) if you like the orange snakes, but the normals look amazing, too! What are axolotls?

I have a leucistic named Hydra, a golden albino named Kraken, and a male melanoid named Kraken. :) I suspect Hydra and Draken are both female, but it can sometimes take males a long time to mature, and Axolotls you SWORE were female, are suddenly, not, lol.

Oh, I've seen those! They look so cool!

I like how the amels look, but I have a little soft spot for normals. Just choose on the spot. Just get one that was "meant for you".

I love your username. Very unique!

I just got my first corn, and it's so exciting. My family accepted her pretty well, and admitted that she was cute. Your mom might actually like it, depending on how small it is. :)

Hah, thank you! It's my brother's nickname for me, lol. According to him, since I love the colour green, and frogs are green, and I scuba dive, and scuba divers used to be called frogmen, that makes me a frog, LOL. Lucky for him, I happen to like frogs! :p

That, is highly unlikely, lol. My mom grew up in the middle of the Chaco in Paraguay, where snakes were everywhere and they were pretty much all dangerous to humans. She has a very deeply ingrained fear of them, and that's okay. I live on my own, she has no need to interact with my snakes. :)

And yes, Axolotls are VERY cool! Very interactive too. Mine beg at the front of their tank all the time for food, lol.

Thanks! And, I really haven't seen a colour morph I don't love yet, lol, so I know I'll be thrilled with whatever I get! :)

I got her! Lovely little amel female, just finished her shed before I got her, and she's super sweet! I snapped the first pic just after taking her out of her travel container and before putting her into her new home, and she was so calm, just snuggled right into my hand! :) Last two pics are of her exploring her new home. I plan to swap the paper towel bedding for aspen eventually, just wanted to keep it like this until after her first feeding and poop, since I read it can be pretty hard to find otherwise, lol. Just have to pick out a name now!

Thanks! I've settled on a name, Avatre. :) It's the name of a dragon in one of my favourite fantasy series by Mercedes Lackey, and it means "fire of the dawn". :)
