I have a 40 gallon tank and im planning to prepare my tank for my new corn snake im getting in 4 weeks and i was just wondering what are the most important things that i should put in my tank?

is it possible i can see some of your tank pics.

:flames: thanks

Well your going to need a, UTH, water bowl, prper substrate and 2 hides and maybe a few silk plants and some driftwood, o ya and a digital thermometer.

can u use a uth if the bottom of your tank is wood. i dont think so, so what should i do if im gonna build my own tank.

whats UTH, im clueless

and i did research and i saw that aspen chips were the right substrate, do any of u use anything diffrent

UTH= under tank heater. do a search on that. it just a heating pad you put under the tank.

I am planning on building my own viv and what i am going to do is use glass for the bottom like a picture frame using a router. So its basically glass with a wooden border.

I have planted tanks instead of using aspen - my substrate is a mix of organic compost and eco-earth (coconut fiber) The snakes seem to love the plants, and it gives me the perfect climate for growing some things that don't like the rest of the house. Some people have concern over impaction/etc with planted tanks - so use at your own risk. I haven't had any trouble yet, and my sheds are always perfect.

a friend told me that u can put heavy rocks on the top of a tank so that snakes would not leave the top of the screen of the aquairium. '

can u do that?

yep,

or find some "clips" at a petstore. There also some binder clip I read about that you could get at a Staples (office supply store) I'm not sure what they look like though. But yep on the rock.

Don't completely depend on the clips though, I'd still put a weight on the top. Larger corns will find a way to get the lid off somehow if they really want to.
