Let me give you the whole picture.

I have a 20 gallon long ( i dont know what to call it, but its not a fish tank because its one of thoughs tanks that has slideing glass doors).
75 watt bulb
aspen bedding
heating pad
humidity stays around between 20-30
btw, the snakes name is Odo. I'm a star trek fan, and Odo is the name of someone on Star Trek :Deep Space Nine. I chose Odo because in Star Trek the name means 'unknowen sample" and since i dont know the gender of the snake...well, the name fit :)

yesturday i noticed that the tempature reached up to 88* (digitle) i was wondering if this was too hot?

my house is werid as far as the temp on each floor goes. i live in a colonial home. the snake is in the basement. the temp on our main floor is usualy 72, in the basement its about the same, sometimes hotter sometimes colder (depends on time of year, right now its hotter). also, i have a 150 gallon fish tank near the snake tank. the temp in the fish tank is 80, and in side the canopy its usual 94.6*. I have Three metal halides over the fish tank (its a plant tank). so its naturaly warm down here. i have all the heat vents closed down here and i still get a tremendous amount of heat. (i live in michigan btw). im goign to include a link to pictures i have taken so you can see. sorry for my poor speling.

You probably could eliminate that buld since they only raise ambient temps and really dry out the tank, but how are you reading 88 degrees? Is this the temp under the aspen and on top of the UTH, or is this the temp on the surface of the aspen on the warm side. If this is your under aspen temp it's probably fine though a few degrees cooler- 85ish is preferred. If these re surface temps then yes its too warm. Either way eliminating the 75 watt bulb all together will solve this and raise the humidity in your tank a little:)
