New with some questions!

Hi ladies and gents,

I'm brand spankin' new to the boards, and after a short intro (trust me, I'm not too interesting... there's not much to know. ;) ) I have a question or two to ask.

My husband and I are currently NOT to proud parents of any corn snakes, but we have been in the act of researching them for quite some time now. We are moving into our new house in May, so directly after that month we hope to be looking for the perfect scaley addiction to our family. After much snake and reptile research, we found that a Corn Snake would best suit us. Max (the hubby) is getting together the supplies to build a home for the snake when it is older, although we know if we get a hatchling we should keep it in a MUCH smaller enclosure at first. (Like I said, we've been reading a lot.. ;) )

Okay, now for my question.

I have been perusing the internet (plus local, privately owned pet shops) to get a feel for what's out there for a couple months now. Truth be told, I'd rather not purchase from the pet store. I want to go through a snake breeder so that I can make sure that feeding records/eating records have been maintained before it comes to my home, PLUS I feel like someone who specializes in reptiles is much more likely to turn out healthy, hearty snakes.

After much discussion Max and I have decided that we want to look for a Bloodred (I am a sucker for that dark, rich crimson coloring) and/or a dayglow motley.

I would love to hear from all of you who have had good (and bad, for the sake of knowledge) experiences. I would love some good breeder recommendations, as well as to hear from some of your private breeders.

Thank you!!!

Nice to meet you. Cornsnakes are a good choice. Very sweet and docile (do remember that babies will sometimes be nippy~ but they usually outgrow that)

I always think going with a breeder is best. For the reasons you state~ and because most times what the pet stores have is what the breeder was willing to wholesale out. What the breeder kept to sell themselves is the best of what they produced. Thats not always the case~ some store owners are also breeders~ but it is often the case.

JM,

Thanks for the welcome! I looked at your website. I am in love with Opie and Magi!!! All of your snakes are beautiful, but those two are ABSOLUTELY stunning!

Thank you!
They both turned out to be het hypo~ didn't know that till it proved out in a breeding. Someday I will take decent pics of thier hypo bloodered daughters I held back~ they are coming along nicely.
