So I am a new snake owner....
My adult female Ghost (who is my profile image) I got from CL last summer as a b day present for my son.
She was left in a house with her eggs in her viv and her owner moved out and left her in the house... so the landlord craigslisted her.
Given the clutch I am certain she is a she...
SO, my stupid newb question is.... is she going to lay even though she hasn't had a mate? I just want to make sure that she has a lay box if she is going to lay whether she has a man or not
I tried to search for that but didn't find anything. Please be gentle haha!
Not a bad question at all! Pretty much all female reptiles, corn snakes included, can and do lay infertile eggs even if they have never been near a male. One of mine did that last year and I'm suspecting that she might this year again and have given her a lay box just in case. That said, most unbred female snakes usually don't lay eggs or if they do, a lot of the time it's not something they do every year. Since yours has done it before, it won't hurt to give her a lay box just in case though.
