Newbie Color-Morph Question..

Hey all, I've just been thinking.. most corn snakes, or snakes in general, seem to have 'warm' colors (think back to art class). Any 'cool' colors? Ok, I'll say it.. I wanna see a blue cornsnake! Does such a color morph exist? Is there any (humane) way to genetically alter a corn snake (lol)? I could just stock up on 100watt blue bulbs for my tank... ;)

the bluest corn snake available is probably one of Joe Peice's Ice Ghost. Lavenders are a cool colored snake, as are many other snakes carrying anerythristic genes. A search of Lavender, Ice Ghost, Ghost, Anerythristic, Charcoal, and Pewter should give you some good ideas of corns that don't have much red :)

I bought a couple of silver blue ghosts this year . I hope the color out nice to the allready blue shade they have .

How is the color on this one?(needs natural light?)
More grey than blue, but look around the eyes.

i saw "blue motleys" advertised at kingsnake.com a few days ago. they didn't look bright blue, it was more like a pair of dark blue jeans. i don't know how they create this morph, but i'm sure someone here can tell you.

cornsnake00, what type of corn is that? It looks like it has some bloodred, but its too pretty to associate with any other morphs ;) I want one :crazy02:

You got it. Pewter. Not the best picture. Digital camera? Need practice.

There are snows with pretty darn green saddles (green snows; green spot snows). They don't really have green pigment, but they reflect a lime green in the light.

I can post a picture when I get home of one I used to have showing the quality of the green coloration.

Thanks, I'd apreciate it.

Similarly, do ratsnakes have any 'choice' morphs for such a project? It would be fun to try and influence the green pigment by mating the 'candidates' to ratsnakes which happen to be more green then normal, then bleed out the line until its more cornsnake then ratsnake... ouch, that could hurt my wallet..

I think I'll stick with a Ghost or Miami..

Well there are snakes out there that can be blue, though they are usually rare and hard to find, but none are cornsnakes.

Some examples:

Green Tree Pythons
(There are better examples out there, this is just the first I found)

Green Bush Snake (Elaphe prasina)

Japanese ratsnakes (Elaphe climacophora) - these are pretty similar to cornsnakes, or so I've heard

wow, that green bush snake is really neat! i've never been able to see one before, but i really like their coloration

oysterboy, you could look up the fauna ads for anyon selling a green bush snake willing to ship

OK, here ya go. The green snow I used to have. Unfortunately, these were taken on my old crappy digi cam and I have sold her since then , but you get a hint of the green she was. In good light, she had soft lime-green saddles like key lime pie.

Amanda-

That Prasina is amazing, do you have any info on where the picture came from or who has them? Just curious, it's not an Elaphe I'm familiar with, but is certainly gorgeous.

well look what i found
prasinafem1.jpg

a pair of these puppies were for sale on fauna classifieds. You can have them for only 1800 USD! WHAT A DEAL! i wish i could have a blue one.... they look so neat

the closest blue snake I can think of is a blue beauty, which are really cool looking. They do look kinda blue, but nothing bright and outstanding. That jap rat snake is awesome looking. My brother has one of those, but it doesn't quite have the coloration that one has.

Yes, the Vietnamese Blue Beauty (Elaphe taeniura ssp), certainly deserves the name.............not as vibrant as the prasina; although the 'Beauty' has the advantage of variation in the dorsal patterning.........and then there's the Egyptian black 'eye liner'.

Here's our boy (photo taken last year), he is now 5 years of age..............males exhibit a more blue 'denim' colouration to that of the female.

Sorry... I've not visited this thread in a while...

Um, no. I don't know where I found it. I just surfed the web a bit until I found a photo of one. They are usually just a bright green, not like that blue shown, hense the reason I called the blues ones rare. Actually prasina in general are fairly rare.
