Newbie question: What are those bowls with holes that people put the snakes in?

It seems like many pictures of snakes for sale are pictured in small bowls with holes in the sides. What are those bowls? Are they necessary to have? If so, where can I buy one?

Those are just little deli cups that many breeders will use to send snakes home in or use for display when for sale. You don't need them :)
A lot of people use them to feed hatchlings in, but you can use a sandwhich box!
