Hi everyone,

My name is Rin and I am the proud owner of a 2 year old albino corn snake, Tama. I came on here to get in touch with other corn snake owners and to ask questions and share stories.

I actually have a first question... for the past 3 days, when i take Tama out for handling, I've noticed her making noises that sound like chirping or squeaking. Does anyone have any ideas what that could be from? When I first figured out SHE was the one making those noises I thought it was kind of cute, but I'm starting to get a bit concerned.

Well, again, happy to be here on the forum and if anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful for the input.

~Rin

If your really concerned then I suggest a vet. I have two corns. One I have had one for two yrs. The other was wild caught about 1 yr. ago. They go thru cycles of not eating for 2 months sometimes. Just when I think they are going to die of starvation or sickness they come around and eat like pigs and gain weight. They can be very hard to figure out..

Welcome to the forum, but sorry to hear about your snake. Hope the trip to the vet was productive. Sometimes you've got to go out of your way to find a good herp vet.

Any word?

Fred

Welcome to the forum! Hope you find the source of the chirping noise soon..Keep us posted :0(

It could be due to loose skin in the nostrils if she's due to shed. Some corns make whistling or clicking noises (My anery, Norwood has scared the pants off me by doing it)

she does look a bit paler which means that she'll probably won't shed for another 2 weeks, but i'll wait until she does to get an apt with a vet... until then i'll look for one in my area incase the chirping doesn't stop.

Thanks for your comments so far!

Obviously, don't delay a vet visit if you see any other RI symptoms, but having a noisy shedder myself I'm hoping that's the source of the noise.

i put the heat heat pad up higher (i decreased the temp a week ago bc it was just getting too hot in there for me to feel ok about leaving her in the tank) and i'll be checking her later tonight.

Welcome to the forums. Read all the FAQ's asap, and search for Cornsnake Caresheet. It will save you a lot of time.

Anyone ever think the noise is her trying to fake rattle? Corns do that in the wild to scare off predators, and make them sound and look like rattlers. Even the tail will be wigling(rattling).

I havent seen er tail wiggling, but i fed her this afternoon and her tank has been about 3 degrees warmer than it was before. I haven't heard her make the chirping noise, but i'm keeping an eye out for it still

sounds good, but it either sounds like rattling or it doesn't. The tail wiggling isn't shown all the time or by all corns. For exaample my corn has done the rattling of the tail, but never the sound, and has never shown aggression. Good luck. Hopefully it's nothing. Did the noise start after the temps raised? What range are you using?

A tail rattle sounds nothing like a squeak or chirp. If you said she isnt due to shed for another couple of weeks then it sounds to me like a RI. If you notice it again i would deffenitly take her to the vet. I have noticed that they will sometimes make those noises after drinking but that is right after they drink. Wish you the best of luck and hope your snake is fine. Enjoy the forum it is a great place to be.:wavey:

Never know a lot of people interpret things differently. I was just covering all the bases. Didn't mean to offend anyone.
