When is the fine line of waiting and needing a helping hand ??

How long have you had Hermes? What is the setup for that one? (enclosure size, # of hides, heat source, (t-stat?) is the enclosure in a high traffic area), etc?

P.S. Welcome to the forum! :)

He is in my daughters bed room 15 gallon aquarium has three hides has a carpet a under tank heat mat and a light and temps between 80/85 on the heat side he has aspen bedding on the cool side with carpet and water dish he is very active when people are in the room he was handled quite a bit as first thanks to the pet stores bad advice

Is he a baby?
You want to give them about a week to settle in, before offering food.
I wouldn't offer food any more than once every 7 days, if he is being picky about eating.

Yes he is very small I guess I am just worried cause he is soo tiny the store only had him for the day I got him they had no info on him an his eating or when he shed last or anything I don't know how old he is but is about the length of a ruler I'll send a pic

Babies tend to stress easier than adults do. Occasionally you will get lucky and a baby will eat right away, without waiting, but many do much better when you wait, and give them about a week to settle in.

If you offer food too often, it will continue to stress him out and may cause him to go off feed.

I recommend leaving him alone for a week, only check to make sure he has clean water, but do not handle him or mess with the enclosure. Then offer food,

Do you have a thermostat for your heat sources? If not, you should. If it is getting too warm, that might also cause him to refuse to eat.
Any/all heat sources should be regulated with a t-stat (or a rheostat, but you have to manually adjust the temps).

If he doesn't eat after a week of being left alone, there is a list of tricks you can try (I think Nanci even has a post about it, but we'll cross that bridge when you get to it.)

Many of the non eating babies, that I have seen, have been due to messing with them too much or too soon after getting them.

The tank came with a thermometer it is in it should I be using two ? I know we need to get a humidity reader for it

No, a thermostat. It regulates the temperature. If the temps get too warm, it will either shut off or reduce the temps.

Personally, I do not track humidity. I think in most areas, as long as the snake has proper setup, and access to clean drinking water, the actual humidity is not as important.

Where. Would I get one of those ? A the pet store ? See I thought that was what the light on the top was for …wow am I ever clueless I do feel the need to call this pet store that I went too and let them know they are giving way too much false information. They sell the terrariums saying this is all you need a heat pad and a light with a thermometer

I would order one online. Many of the ones available in the petstore are not very good quality.
Where are you located? How is the climate where you are at?

There's a couple options for t-stats.
Hydrofarm Digital 1000 watt capable thermostat is made for heating seedmats, but I know many people that use this one successfully.
I currently have Johnson Control and Ranco t-stats that I got from Reptile Basics.

The best one out there, IMO is the Herpstat, by Spider Robotics. It is expensive, but worth it.
When I replace mine, it will be with one of those.
