Newby Feeding Question Here

Keeper of The Samster
Hi there- I hope this has been posted in the correct spot and sorry if this sounds kinda dumb.

I'd like to know if there are any owners/breeders out there who offer their corns a "variety" of foods, meaning offering quail/chicken chicks and eggs in addition to the regular rodent diet.

Is this simply a matter of personal preference? Is there any advantage to feeding variety or disadvantage? Would the corns appreciate "treats" such as a fertile quail or chicken egg every once in a while?

Your thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated!

i think i read somewhere if u feed it something else you might risk it getting attached to that particular "treat" and not accepting the normal convenient frozen pinkies or whatever!

i don't think the snakes care for the "treat"s as long as you keep them full and happy with proper care!

Corns don't need variety. They do just fine on rodents all their life - they have all the right nutrients, and are a good source of protein. Variety would really be for your benefit, not theirs. But the downsize would be it's expensive. When older, you could offer a chick if you wanted to. But, these tend to run through snakes and you can look forward to some smelly poop! As they're not really necessary, I'd only offer them if U really couldn't find mice in your area. Hamsters or small rats could be an alternative to the standard mice for an adult Corn, but hamsters are pretty pricey in comparison. If your guy gets a taste for them, it could be an expensive habit. And to answer your last question snakes, don't see food as a treat, or anything for that matter has a treat. They see it has a meal and that's all. They eat what they can when they can because in the wild they don't know how long it will be till their next meal. Hope this helped.

Thanks for the link! I have to drive an hour to the nearest Petco for Sammy Snacks. It'd be nice to have a stash in the freezer and save on the gas.

No Problem. I hear you on that. My petco is only 12-15 minutes away but i hate having to go there, and i usually end up buying more crap than i need. Plus i like be stocked up and not having to make trips.
