Nitemare's First Feeding

Nitemare

New member
Nitemare ate for the first time today, just over a week since I got him.

I am doing a small weanling every 10-14 days to try and slim him down a little bit...but I did weigh him before he ate, and he's at 165g after his big shed and poop...not 175g like I had said (that was with a full belly)...

This was a 14g weanling, and man he was hungry! Less than 3 minutes from strike to finish!

First two is him eating, last one is him in his tank...saying "That's it? I was expecting seconds!!"

Thanks!

Glad he ate just fine. He is such a beautiful color. Yeah, he looks like he wants seconds LOL.

glad he is adjusting well.

Even a constriction! You're lucky, mine has never done that. I bet you're a proud parent :) I know i would be

As far as constricting goes, do they just do that naturally when they are born in captivity, or is that something we help teach them? I know they do it out in the wild naturally.. but in captivity? Ares constricts around my fingers a lot but doesn't strangle the pinkies yet.

I have read about some that never constrict...because they have been on F/T their whole lives...
I did live my first feeding to make sure he'd take it...I'm going to do P/K next time...and if he takes one that's already dead, I'm going to order some F/T.

Lol the mouse looks like a squishy toy in the first picture with his eyes popping out.

I was afraid to get my shiny new camera too close...I thought for sure it was going to pop like a balloon!

I'm a big softy because I don't think I could have handled watching him constrict the mouse and all the squealing etc.. I probably would have fainted LOL

I don't have a problem with watching a snake kill a mouse. But I'm afraid when the day comes i have a mice colony and i have to kill some of the mouse so i can freeze them for later use. The only way i could kill the mice if by a CO2 chamber and just turn on the CO2 and then don't watch till i know they're all dead.

I don't have any problem watching them kill a mouse or even killing one myself if they take P/K but i'd rather feed F/T cause of the danger with live. unfortunately, the boa i have only eats live :(

I'm preparing for that too. I'm thinking of buying a 10-20 live mice and just feed those until they're all gone and than just buy new ones.

if you buy that many though, you need to make sure they won't bee too big when you feed them 10-20 weeks later

I would think with 1 or 2 males, and 4-6 females you'd have a hell of an operation going lol...I wouldn't think you'd need more than that...

A boa could eat all of the ones that made it to adulthood though :D

and the one the boa can't eat i'll kill and freeze for the corn snake. maybe it will work. anyway i'll see how i'm going to do that snake breeding thingy when i'm getting ready fot the boa, but as i said before the boa will not arrive here for summer 2011. Can't afford a second viv now and by then i have the small vivs of my corn.

yup, i would looking to Boaphile, they are amazing and not too spendy, i don't have one but i would've loved to get one right from the start if the boa didn't come with a cage

You guys in USA are so lucky. Here in Belgian it's so hard to get such nice vivs. Luckily I live not so far from the biggest reptile store of the BENELUX.
