Hey there everyone, I'm a new member interested in getting my first snake! I've been collecting Tarantulas for a while and have decided to take a step into the unknown (for me) world of herpetology! I was thinking about getting a corn snake from my local pet store as a first but am wondering what the more seasoned snake keepers think. Is a corn snake an acceptable beginner? Also, an explanation or introduction to need to know information about snakes is very helpful!

Welcome. You chose a great forum to join. The people here are very knowledgeable and experienced. Any question you may have will be answered here. I am new to the snake owning trade and had all my questions answered here. The general consensus here is shop for a reputable breeder. Do not get one from a chain pet store. In fact there are multiple breeders on this forum that would hook you up. Again welcome.

Same as when going to buy a tarantula I see! There seems to a snake collector/breeder who works at the petstore, I'll ask him about where the nearest snake dealer is!

That's a good idea. Wish you the best of luck. So far I really enjoy my snake. Can't wait to hold her and watch her grow.

After doing research online and reading a couple of books I ended up getting a baby corn. From what I read they are the best snakes to own as a first. So far I really enjoy her. I'm going to post some good pics of her sometime this week. I don't know exactly what type of corn she is but I think she is a great looking snake.
