Well my corn snake has finished shedding, which was why he wasn't eating before. I don't think he's eaten once in his life, considering I baught him as a hatchling. I Tried to feed him yesterday. I thawed a frozen pinky. He bit at it, but after a while, he gave up. It was too big. I cut the pinkies head off and tried to feed him just the head. He wasn't interested. Then i got a brand new pinky and cut him thru the middle. Not jus the head, but half the head and half thhe body. CornHole( My cornsnake) Bit.... Got his mouth round the head.... but then he just stopped!!! this is the 4th time offering food to it!:cry:Help!!!!!!!!!

Usually when a snake starts to eat it will continue until it finishes unless it is disturbed. Not knowing anything more about your situation, I would guess your snake was disturbed by something. Try getting the smallest pinky you can find, put snake and mouse in a paper lunch sack. Fold the top over several times and put a paper clip on it. Leave it alone, ALONE, for 12 hours. See what happens.

Frozen/Thawed is always safest! Make sure the pinkie is very warm.....my snake has to have them warm, warm, warm.....but not HOT! I have to feed him each pinkie seperatly as the second one will cool down to much for his tastes if I don't.

I would also wait a few days (from the day you last tried to feed him) before you try to feed him again, you don't want to stress him out too much and make him dread feeding time. GOOD LUCK!

Keep that paper lunch bag in a securely closed bin!!!! We dont want to read your next post....Snake got loose.

There are several things you can try.
1. Very small pinky, brained. Put a tiny hole in the top of the head and the "fluid" will bead out.
2. Room defrosted not water defrosted. (I have a much better first time feeder ratio doing it this way)
3. Live, one day one pinky.
4. Leave him/her in a deli cup or paper bag like Wade said, overnight with its food. Leave the snake alone! Do not even peek!

Make sure the snake in enclosed in something secure. Best wishes.

Put the bag in the viv...

Problem solved. I left a pinky head in the viv ove nite, and i awoke to see that it disapeared. Ive fed it three times now. It doesnt accept food from me, but always eats ovrnite. It still bites me... A LOT, but it doesnt hurt.

I do the most horrible thing that a snake owner could do...i have to feed my snake in her actial viv.

she just will not eat anywhere else..not in a bag, not in a different container, or feeding cage...

and i know that this is a big no no, but this is the ONLY place she will eat. I have tried many different ways of giving the food to her in many different places, but she will only eat in her viv. oh well....Lucy doesnt lunge at me or anything like that, and she does not associate my hand with food...so i suppose thats a good thing, right?! lol

Feeding in her viv isn't a bad thing at all. What do you think most breeders do? They sure as heck don't move EVERY snake they breed into a feeding tub.

Only time that I think it is really bad to feed them in their viv is when it is on substrate that could get swallowed and cause harm.

If you do feed in the viv Razzy you should put the mouse on a plate so the snake doesn`t swallow any substrate.

see i was always told, and always heard that it was bad to feed them in their viv. it would teach the snake to identify your hand with food, and thus causing them to want to strike at you or something when you put your hand in their cage.

i have had luck before with different snakes and feeding them outside their homes though...but lucy...she is definitely a woman...she likes things to be done a certain way, and believe me..its her way or the highway! lol..

to each its own i suppose.

Some Corns insist on eating in the viv, some refuse to eat anywhere but outside. Some will accept being hand-fed, some want to be left alone. Some will tolerate being watched when eating, some have to be left in the dark overnight before they get on with the job.

Whatever "rule" us humans come up with, they'll find a way to prove us wrong!

As Razzy says, to each its own. Finding out what your Corn prefers is part of growing into a good keeper.

Well mortimer (New name) eats in the viv, and he accepts the food from me! He also has stopped biting so much...
