Normal Growth

I have had my Corn Snake now for about 3 months. She has grown but I wonder if she is keeping "pace". She has grown close to about 4 inches and is eating 2 pinkies right now. I was wondering if this was normal or about right or what?

Length: 17.5" (43cm)
Weight: 17.5 g

What weight did she start out at?

I've got 6 snakes I've had for 2.5 months now. 4 are corns, 2 are spotted pythons (who start off about the same size as corns and seem to grow at a similar rate while young). They all started off between 7 and 9 grams and are now between 17 and 27 grams. So your little snake doesn't seem too far off from mine.

Mine have been fed every 5-6 days on average and get ~25% of their body weight at each feeding right now. I find the "% of body weight" to be easier to deal with than the very popular Munson plan. Once they hit ~50-60g I'll probably drop down to ~20% of body weight per feed and at over 100g I'll go down to ~15% (which is what my two snakes over 100g currently get). Overall it keeps track with the Munson Plan pretty closely but is easier to remember when I'm pulling out mice.

It really does depend on where they start as well as genetics--some snakes take off at different points. I bought two one month old hatchlings in August, one is at 25g and eats two pinkies (she may move up to a fuzzie soon) and the other is a lot smaller around 18g because he had a regurge a while ago and is still building up to a larger pink. I bought another snake in June--he was about 20g, now he is almost 60g.

She was less than a month old when I got her and weighed less than 8 grams. I have had her since. I will prolly start feeding her more often than I have been (about once every 6 days) to once every 5 days. That may be it. It also may be that I have been currently buying mice from Petco and have not bought in bulk yet. I know I should and have been looking into it but have not yet. She does eat like a champ whenever I present her with food, so it may be because she is really hungry.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

I got 1 corn snake in July, he weighed 11gr, i was feeding him 1 pinkie every 5 days, he now weighs 27gr & is now eating a small fuzzy once every 6 days. My other corn I got in September, he weighed 26gr then & was eating 1 small fuzzy, he now weighs 42gr & has 1 fuzzy once every 6/7 days but i have an anery corn & i got him at the end of september, he weighed 12gr, he was eating 1 pinkie, he now weighs 20gr & is eating 2 pinkies every 5 days, but is very slim, not thin but very flighty, never keeps still when i get him out.
Marg.

i purchased my snake near the end of july or early august. we think he was born near the end of june. wehn we got him, he was about 10 grams. he is now at fourty grams (i weighed him today) and is eating large fuzzies once a week.

If I understand correctly, your snake increased in weight from 10 gr to 40 gr in only 3 months ? How is that possible ? Or do you mean you've got him in mid 2007 ?

The largest of my '08s has grown at about the same pace. He was 43g yesterday, from 8g when we got him in Daytona at the end of August.

I aim for a 5 day feeding schedule but with vacations and finals and such he's really only been fed every 7 days most of the time, so it's not like I've been powerfeeding or anything.

I have 6 other '08 snakes fed on the same regimen (4 corns, 2 spotted pythons) and he's the largest, but also one of the most active and constricts quite impressively when fed. Some snakes just grow faster/better than others. He's also not one to refuse when he's getting ready to shed, which means he has 1-2 meals on most of the others.

Marco...you and I seem to have snakes around the same age. Cyrus was born on or around August 15. I have had him for about 3 months now. I can't tell you how long he is because Cyrus is an active booger who won't sit still long enough to get a length. However, I weighed him 5 days ago at his feeding and he was 17 grams. He was then fed 2 pinkies and tucked in for three days. He is now in blue....he won't eat in blue so he won't be fed until his eyes clear up....I will weigh him before feeding at that time.

I am NO expert.....farthest from it, but from what I have been told about Cyrus and his growth rate from people on here your snakey sounds like he is doing great!

She actually has grow a little more since the last time I replied. She is now on a fuzzie and is able to digest it in 48 hours just like a pinkie. She has grown to about 20g (how I have no idea, I changed to feedings every 5 days with 2 pinkies). She is doing really good and is full of energy. Thanks for all the help from everyone.
