Not eating because of this...???

It has been a little over a month since my first clutch hatched. 2 of them still have not eaten. It wasn't until today that I noticed this on one of those two. It looks to be a kink or something. Any ideas? Does this little guy have a chance?

If there is a chance but I still can't get it to eat and I can go to Daytona I will give it to anyone that will try. This is my sisters favorite one so I really hope I don't have to euthinize.

Thanks!

Yeah, that looks like a kink/bump to me. There looks like there may be another one 5 saddles back from that one too. But I don't know if the kinking and the non-feeding are linked.

I'm not completely heartless. I have some mildly kinked hatchlings that I've already given 5 or 6 meals to. I just haven't been able to cull them since they're eating so well. I also have a couple of non-feeders that I've been working harder than I should to get started. But to be honest, I wouldn't expend much effort on a kinked non-feeder. That's a double-whammy. :(

David,

One of our little ones has those lumps but ours has it down his back in three different places.

We took him into our local Herp Doc and he told us that it is a form of Herp Scoliosis, he of coarse had a different name for it and I can't remember it. Further more he told us that it in no way will effect his quality of life, it is usually caused from something lacking in the mother when she was developing the eggs probably the other babies received more of her nutrients than our little guys.

He also would not eat, finally I put him in a dark closed container with his f/t pinkie inside of their viv over night and by the next morning he had eaten now mind you this was just sunday night, I am feeding again tonight.

I guess my point was, that if it is indeed the same malformity as ours it will live a full and happy life, (well thats what the doc said).

I hope this will help you, I will also post some pictures of him tomorrow because I need some input on his morph..

Thanks Eveyone for the help so far!

What have you tried so far, Dave?

Well, most everything except force feeding and anole scenting. I tried live, ivory soap washed, braining, placing it in its mouth, and moving it by its mouth.

I may have to get an anole somewhere. I think the Daytona show will have them. He should be hungry by now I would think.

Did you try the container method, last night we fed Boba in his container inside of his viv and he ate, this seems to be the only way that he'll eat, you have to leave him be over night, if you have not tried this, give it a try.

Not exactly. I took out his paper in his container and left him in it overnight with him.

Want me to mail you an anole?

That would be great but I am not sure if it would work. I mean its worth a try. I have heard two different ways to do it. Some people said they keep a live anole and put the pinky in his mouth and others say they keep a frozen anole and defrost it and use it over and over again. The second one would probably work best for us if thats is an okay way to do it... :shrugs:

I'm sure that you've thought about this already, but sometimes it's the obvious, simple ideas that lead to something better/more helpful???

My lil' lav guy -- who has been hovering around 10 g & has been slowly gaining weight since I got him at the end of June (he's now about 13 g...it's been frustrating trying to get him to eat!) -- has had lots of refusals. I found that putting him in his separate feeding container and then covering it with a cloth (to darken it) and then leaving him in a dark, quiet room for at least an hour worked...the first time I did it, I left him with the pinky overnight. I was just so frustrated so I gave him the pinky probably around 11 pm and when I checked on him at 6ish am, it was gone & he was calmly coiled up!

This last time, because he really needed to start taking two pinkies, I gave him his first -- and left him dark & quiet & alone for an hour...when I checked on him, it was gone. So, with fingers crossed, I popped in the second pinky...another hour later, thankfully it was gone, too. I also slit the top of the pinky's head -- that seemed to help. There was even a couple of weeks where -- for some reason -- he liked to take the pinkies that had been injected with NutraBac. I dunno. His brain is too small for me to even contemplate getting inside of it...:p

I hope that your lil'guy starts eating soon so that you can avoid force feeding...*fingers crossed for you*!
