Not sure if I'm providing enough natural light...

Hi all! As I posted before, we just brought a new corn home for my son for Christmas. This is our first snake, and he is doing great - good appetite, good poops, seems to do well when handled.

My question is about natural lighting. My son's room isn't getting much light, especially during a Pacific Northwest winter. I know he doesn't need a basking lamp or a UVB bulb, but I'm wondering if I should provide a basic light source on a timer, maybe a pole lamp set away from the tank to simulate the sun? And if so, will a regular 60-watt household bulb do, or should I use a daylight bulb from the pet store?

As always, any and all thoughts/suggestions are appreciated!

They don't need any certain amount of light. Corn snakes usually come out toward dusks and roam at night which makes them inactive during most of the morning and day.
My room has black curtains which lets no light in. I open them and the room is very bright...so I leave it open a crack just for the benefit of my other pets.

Basking lamp will give off heat and cause temp problems. A very low watt tube light would work but you don't need it.

;)

As long as the room has some type of natural light, he'll be fine. As Skully says, they tend to shun bright light anyway.

Basically, an eating pooping Corn is a happy Corn! Sounds like you're all doing just fine without a light and in your place, I wouldn't bother with one.
