Not sure if the 40% sale is for me

It's been a while since I posted, but last summer i bought my first corn snake. Now i've decided to purchase another, and i'm thinking of a butter motley. So i go to rich's site and realize he has a sale (now 40%). unfort i have to spend $300 (butter mot $150). So now i'm in a pickle, i can get another $150 snake for only $30.... ($300 x .6 =$180, $180-$150). Although i really only wanted one more snake, for $30 it seems hard to pass up.

So anyone in Wisconsin want a new snake???:)

Read carefuly. There is more to it then that. It's a gamble and that is why they are less. You will spend $30 dollars more , but what if only one does well and the other never takes off, then your out $30. If you do loose one and it's of the sex you desire , then your in trouble. I f you simply want a butter mot. and don't care what sex it is . It's a good gamble and you might end up with a perfectly healthy pair. Personally I would rather pay full price and know what I am getting, becuase if one doesn't do well it's going to mess up my plans, but if I where just starting out like you it might be a good risk to take.

I think you need to buy a pair of butter motley's for that price. It is time that you step up to the plate and take this stuff seriously. And in addition to this pair you should pick up a caramel corn female for only $22.50 This way you can raise them all up and breed the male to these two lovely females. You will have two lovely clutches.

Think how much you have enjoyed watching yours grow since last summer. Now multiply that time three new neonates. Just seems like you can't go wrong here. So long as you have the room to house them you are ok. Might be a good time to consider a small rack system.

Ok maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself here.

But it is a real good deal and you may have some problems getting them to feed.... there are no promisses made about that. So it would probably be in your best interest to order more than one. And my advise is.... if you don't want to keep all of the snakes just take them in temporarly and see how they feed and if they both do well than just sell one on this site. Who wouldn't buy a butter motley from you for $40? If you save the packaging that it was shipped to you in, it will be easy to change the address on it and send it out the door to someone else.

I imagine that once you have them and they are feeding that you won't be able to let them go.

Anyway,

Good luck with your decision.

A big reminder...it IS a gamble. Rich doesn't guarantee any of these sale hatchlings, and you have a good chance of getting most of them before they've eaten more than 1 meal. I purchased 5 hatchlings last year (50% off), all did well for a month or two, then suddenly 3 died (the amber and the pair of hypo het ambers). The other 2 are doing just great (charcoal and normal het lavender).

I'm putting my losses down to my absolutely horrible bad luck with anything relating to the amber cultivar (EVERY amber or het amber I ever bought has died) and that last year just wasn't very good over-all (lost 75% of the keepers from my own clutches, and I had alot of clutches that just went bad before even hatching).

I purchased 6 more sale hatchlings this year from Rich (NOTHING even RESEMBLING an amber...I'm trying some "new" cultivars, for my collection anyway) and I'm hoping for better luck this year (and so far, so good!). Again, I'm taking a gamble, but Rich's snakes are definately worth it.
