Not that im do worried just curious what would cause this. my snake shed sept 9th and is going into shed now she is 5yrs old. Is she really growing that quickly?

Thanks

Just letting you know that shedding once a month, is normal. Also, shedding isn't always indicative of growing. A snake will shed it's entire life. It's a natural processing, of cycling the old out and beginning a new.

Hope that helps!

Yeah, I have a five year old that doesn't stick to any shedding schedule. He will go for months without shedding, then shed twice in one month, then again two months later, and so on and so forth. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Unless you notice that she is gaining a lot of weight.

Good Luck

If she has gained a lot of weight what should i be doing? cause she is considerably larger.

Thank you so much for your help.

No problem!!

You should check how often you are feeding her. If she is gaining a lot of weight and getting a little thick around the body, then you may want to scale back on the feeding. Maybe a few more handling sessions a week.

May I ask, how often you feed her and what size/type rodents?

I feed her a large mouse every 7-10 days depending on how large it is.
I also try to handle her 2-3 times a week

Yeah, then she should be fine. Feeding a mouse every 7-10 days is perfect. I think she is just shedding a little sooner then normal. It happens once in a while and for so many different reasons.

If you are concerned, try keeping track of her weight and see if it changes. Other than that, I think your fine.

Thanks so much!

I just wanted to add it might not be a bad idea to look closely at the snake for any cuts/burns and make sure there are no mites, if a snake is shedding more often than usual it can also be because it is trying to heal from an injury or can be caused by having mites, and the shed cycle in females is also related to breeding (there is a pre-lay and post lay shed when a female lays her clutch.)
