Clementine, our first corn, came home today. She's a two-year-old female we adopted from a neighbor who's downsizing his collection, & an absolute sweetie.

She came in the tank she's been living in -- a 15-gallon tall I'll be upgrading soon -- & was incredibly docile & chill, happy to be held by my son (who was well prepped about thorough hand washing before & after, not touching her head, letting her glide from hand to hand, & not squeezing her too tight or making sudden movements) while I set up the heater, thermostat & probe, fresh bedding, hide for each side, & filled her water bowl. She climbed up one of his arms, down the other, & ultimately tried to go down his shirt sleeve & curl up against his belly.

She's apparently been using paper towels as bedding, but seems to love the Aspen & has made some burrows in & out of it.

Thanks to everyone for their advice on viv set-up, heaters, feedings, etc. This forum has been awesome already!

I can't tell if she's a normal or an okeetee -- anyone care to weigh in?

Welcome to the forums! And what a nice snake! I can't tell an okeetee apart from a normal because i haven't seen enough okeetees. However i can tell you that it really depends on your own opinion. Some people will tell you that a certain snake is an okeetee while others will say it's an normal. Ooh and as far as genetics go, normal and okeetee are the same (both normals/classics) Okeetees are selectively bred/locality. Also it will be hard to tell from a picture that hasn't got the true colors but you can ask your neighbor as what the snake was labeled when he bought it.

Long story short: Welcome and ask question if you want to (even if you think they're stupid) we are happy to help.

Neighbor wasn't sure -- he said he thought someone said albino, but she's obviously not that! Honestly, I don't care so much what she is, was just curious -- my kids are in love with her already.

Thanks for the welcome -- am so happy to have a forum for my (stupid, even) questions!

Welcome Jennixnay to both you and Clementine! She's such a pretty girl.
BTW, no such thing as a stupid question...right? ;)

Hello and welcome! I would call her a normal A.K.A. Classic. The true Okeetee's are found in only a small area and of the localities they are about the only one that a fair number of keepers get stern about. They think that if you aren't sure they came from that area, they shouldn't be called that. But genetically, they are a normal, as was said.
Congrats on your first snake! She is very pretty!
