Odd Behavior question.

1 week ago my 3 year old female, Ziva, pooped inside the hide on the cool side of her viv. I took the hide out, cleaned and cleaned the tank area and replaced the aspen in that general region. She stopped using the cool hide all together even after I cleaned it again.

Ziva ate on Friday and stayed inside her warm hide until late Sunday when she started moving around again. Her attitude seems unsettled and she again refused the hide on the cool, instead she curled up in the open and just looked agitated.

I took the cool side hide out and replaced it with a box to see if she would go for it, but no dice. She is still lying out side on the aspen near her warm hide.

She has burrowed all through her tank and it seems like she can't get settled.

Is there something I can do to help her?

Her tank is a glass viv, UTH running around 83, fresh water, clean bedding. I used a very very dilute bleach solution to clean and rinsed everything with water and made sure it was fully dry before replacing things in her viv.

It could be related to the time of the year. A few other people have posted questions about their snake's behaving differently; they're just adjusting to the time.
That's what I think at least.

Also, since she's burrowing a lot, why don't you add some more of the bedding? It may encourage her to hide on the cool side. And, what's the temp on the cool side?

The temps on the cool side are in the 70's. She has a good bit of bedding already and can fully bury herself in certain part of the tank if she wants.

My concern again is the agitated behavior and general unsettled behavior she is displaying.

If you move the warm side hide to the cool side, will she use that?

Have you tried rinsing the cool side hide again? Maybe there are traces of the bleach left that are making it smell "wrong". I realise that's highly unlikely, but you just never know with thes beasties sometimes.

Thanks Bitsy, I'll try swapping the hides after I rinse it one more time just to make sure.

It was just a little worrisome for the behavior to start seemingly out of no where in a snake that has been a text book corn since I bought her.

I keep everything super clean to start with, I'm a religious poop remover and regimented cage cleaner after seeing so many animals kept in bad conditions.

Maybe I'll just do a really good total cage scrub down tonight, top to bottom everything and change all the bedding. Then leave her alone for a few days and see if a super clean fresh start helps.
