The store I got Tidus from replaced him. This lil guy is Odin he's a lil bigger and ate today within minutes of me setting out his pinkie, although the lump didnt seem big so I think I may need to upgrade mouse size.
I got UTH but it recommended to stick it to the side, I did this but want to know what you guys think. It's a 10 gallon tank. Pics will be up soon of my lil red wonder!

On the side has worked for some I think but on the bottom is the best. Our little guys use the heat on their bellies to help digest their food. If you can tear it off without messing it up or losing the glue surface and put it on the bottom of the tank that would be best. Make sure you have it regulated somehow though. Some of these mats will get up to 130 degrees others are around 110 but both are WAY to hot when not properly regulated.

I'm glad to hear they "replaced" your snakey for you (although you can't replace one emotionally).

Best wishes to you and your new buddy! ;)

I do miss Tidus even tho I had him for such a short time. How do I regulate it? There isn't a dial. do I just unplug overnight or....?

You can use either one of the herp thermostats (herpstat is one of the names I think) or a lamp dimmer switch (from Lowes or whatever). Either way you'll want a thermometer or thermometer/hygrometer combo in tank to monitor temps/humidity. With the lamp dimmer you'll have to set it and then keep an eye on it as when the temps in the room change so will the temps in tank. With a thermostat it is (mostly) set and forget but it is good to have a thermometer even with the thermostat to make sure it is working properly. Make sure to set the probes for your thermometer and thermostat right on the glass above the uth. I forgot to mention you want a thermometer that measures outside temp and has a probe that you can place in the tank. Not one of the stick on thermometers. Those are horribly inaccurate and only measure ambient temp. You want to measure uth temp as your little guy will burrow and lay right on top of the glass just above the uth. Unregulated the uth will burn/cook your snake. :(

If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I would look for some links for you right now but I'm cooking and getting ready for work. ;)

Good luck!

You can use other brands besides Herpstats also. Not everyone can afford such a pricey (but good quality) thermostat. A lot of people recommend the Hydrofarm digital thermostats, like you can find on Amazon among other sites, which is actually intended for plant seedling heating mats, but is affordable, and reputable among herpers. It doesn't vary as much as my more expensive thermostats in temps, and is affordable, digital, easy to use, and good quality for your price. Even though digital thermostats, thermometers, and hygrometers tend to be a bit more in cost, they're definitely worth it. I'd recommend a dual end thermometer, because then you can read both the warm side, and the cool side, or ambient temps with one device. With corns hygrometers aren't of dire need, since they usually can live and thrive well under average household humidity with a humid hide or misting during shedding. But it is wise to invest in one eventually.

Thanks visceralrepulsion! I was trying to remember the name hydrofarm but could only remember herpstat lol. I actually use lamp dimmers and just keep a close eye on my temps. Eventually I'll get thermostats but these are working for now (and have for quite a while). I got my thermos/hygros from walmart for like 12 dollars a piece. visceralrepulsion is right about the humidity. I just got a good deal on the setup and wanted to be thorough. ;)

Or, you can always use a dimmer switch- $10 at home depot!
Not as nice because you have to check the temp and adjust as necessary.

Don't stick the UTH on- just sit it under 1/3 of the tank.
Measure the temperature directly over the UTH, with a probe thermometer. On the glass. It needs to be 85. 90 will kill your snake.
It will feel cool or barely warm to you. You are hotter than 85°.

It is better to use no heat than unregulated heat. So, wait until you get a thermostat.
