My professor just started teaching the class about corn snake genetics, normal, anerythristic, amelanistic, and snows so far. I have some knowledge on crossing any of these 4 morphs , but I'm a little confused about crossing other morphs with any of these 4 morphs. For example, if I was to cross a female Homozygous Butter with an Amelanistic male Corn snake, only knowing it's phenotype is amelanistic, what are some of the offspring possibilities? I've gained a big interest in corn snake genetics. Any information is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)
 
Most of the known corn snake genes are simple recessives so they would all work the same way. The confusion starts when you don't understand what each morph consists of genetically, as a combination of 2 or more genes can be called something quite different than what it is actually made of. You gave a good example of this as a butter is actually a homozygous combination of 2 genes...amelanism and caramel. Breeding that to another amel of unknown het status will give all amels that are 100% het for caramel (may also written as amel het butter). If that amel is het for caramel, then the pairing would produce a 50:50 clutch of amels het caramel and butters. Some genes will mask other genes, anery masking caramel is a perfect example. There are several tutorials on corn genetics on this forum if you run a thread search (the FAQ thread in the genetics forum is a good start and I have one in my personal forum as well). When you start working with genes like amel and ultra and then motley and stripe, it can get confusing.
