Ohio Ban

Aww come on now. I'm pretty sure the python ban didn't go though. But in Ohio, this did.

My biggest problem with this is, what is a "large constricting snake"? I have a ball python. Now, he's no Burmese, but to a lot of people, he's HUGE! Why do they not have a definition of what a large constricting snake is in the article? Not thrilled with this at all.

On a slightly related topic, I am for permits. I don't think any drunk idiot or naive teenager should be allowed to buy a venomous animal, 20 ft snake, or alligator. But if permits were issued, I don't see a problem with people owning them. (Don't be mad at me. :uhoh:)

Heh, my coworker asked about my ball python's size, asked if he'd get really big. I said "nah, he's a foot long now, and about four feet when full grown." Her -> :eek1: "Oh, ONLY four feet."

:laugh01:

Wonder what she'll say when I finally get my carpet python.

Just the fact the article contains the words "brokered between the Humane Society of the United States" is enough to make me worry and I don't even live in Ohio. Could set a bad precedent and spread to other states.

I have to agree with you. I think some of the exotic animals (not all of them reptiles either) should be harder to acquire but whole sell banning of most things really offends me. Permits & the like aren't going to totally fix whatever the problem is but it will stop some of the stupid or ignorant people from causing problems. The people it's not going to stop from doing stupid things won't be stopped by bans either, so pretty much the only people to lose out when things are banned are the responsible, law abiding ones that weren't causing the problems to begin with.
