Old skin

I have been trying to get an patch of skin of my snake that was left over from his last shed and I can seem to work it off. I've tried humidity to moisten the patch but it still wont come off. Any suggestion?

Where is the patch of skin that wont come off? Do you have something that the snake will rub on in the tank? You could try using "Jungle Bark" substrate.. OR a damp wash cloth..

I provide all my snakes with a "moist hide," which is simply an old plastic container with a hole large enough for the snake to get through, and some king of moist medium. I've used shredded coconut, paper towels, and most recently I've been using stuffing sold to fill pillows with. You could give that a try.

For my bearded dragons who have shed problems I give them a warm soak in the sink with a bit of hydrogen peroxide, the peroxide really seems to help.

For my ball pythons I usually soak them in a tub of warm water for a couple hours, I also leave a rough rock for them to rub on.

Lastly, once in a while I have a corn who can't seem to shed the very tip of their tail. I just get a wash cloth wet, hold the snake, and let them crawl through my fingers like normal, but have the wash cloth in one hand, and just wrap my hand around them and let them crawl through, putting a bit more pressure on the area that needs to come off, I just keep doing that till it comes off.

So you can give any of those a try, but if you provide a moist hide you shouldn't have any problems in the future, I have close to 100 corns right now, and not a sigle one has had a problem once I started with the moist hides. So good luck!!! :)

There's a sticky in the Health seciton that covers dealing with stuck sheds. If that doesn't work, I'd soak twice a day and put Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion (or whatever they changed it into now) on it for a few days, and see if it gets loosened up.
