OMG ESCAPE!!!!!

Two Corns and Growing!
So I just went in there right now to go check on her and shes not there, Ive checked every single inch of her tank, under the substrate and everything. Ive checked the room, every hot place imaginable and she not there! I think she went into my ferrets cage and got eaten I am about to cry right now:( She just got done shedding last night and she was there until i figure early in the morning or just around now. I've had her escape before but she was just right there coiled up looking at me like come pick me up already its cold down here on the floor. I don't know what to do if I search every part of my house that would take over half a week!!! What do I do!

Sorry to hear that she got out... There's a ton of posts with DIY traps and ideas to assist in catching the snake. I think you can rule out the snake being eaten by the ferret, although I've never owned a ferret I doubt that they'd eat a snake period and if it did you'd probably see things like blood or the dead snake for that matter...

Hope you find her, good luck

Brian

Depending on the age of the ferret they might attack from a survival instinct. They are after all related to mongooses. I know that some ferrets have a drive to eat rabbits so who knows. I seriously doubt they would be clean about it though. I am positive you would know by looking (possibly smell) at the cage if the ferret had killed it. Did you check the cage over for signs of the snake? My ferret is SO mellow that just about anything can curl up and sleep with him without any fuss. I'd check and cuddle bags or hammocks in the ferret's cage. Good luck!

do you have a dog like bowl maybe in her tank? Asher scared us once but he was underneath and up inside so when we lifted it we still didn't notice.

my snake got out before, and she was under my dressing gown, hopefully you will find yours soon :)

Tips

I have had several escapes over the years and to date, only one remained on the loose till this day.

1.) Try placing a line of cornmeal across the thresholds of doors in your house. IF the snakes crosses it then you can follow her. The trail will make an arrow pointing the way to her. The cornmeal is easy to vaccum up.

2.) Try the tape traps. Create a loose "ball" of duct tape and place it along the walls. The tape should be very loose though, not tight. It will likely pull a few scales off if you catch her but better than lost forever.

3.) Search the house at night with a flash light, be sure to look in sink and tub drains, under shoes, inside the motor sections of appliances. Think about her, she is coldblooded and will want to stay warm.

Number one has always been the best to get me started and from there it was just looking anywhere and every where I could. Be careful when sliding your shoes on and go ahead and pick up any rugs so she doesn't get crushed.

Good luck and let us know if she turns up.

if shes in a tank, and you have a uth then there is probably enough room to get under her viv. check there. my buddy searched for days for his, i walked in his room, sat down on his bed to look around so we could assess the situation and do a lil passing and thinking. then i looked up and saw him. also check under any other cages with uth you might have. if this is a tub in a rack, check the other tubs. no joke. haha. hope this helps. ill keep you in my thouhgts. and i doubt the ferrets got her. snakes are also pretty smart creatures. and i bet she knows theyre there.

I can't offer any advice seeing as I don't bring my first snake home until Monday but wanted to say good luck and I hope you find her. Have to say too that I think that cornmeal idea is virtually genius = )

You've been given some good suggestions but, I would like to say please do NOT use Duct Tape, it is way too sticky and can cause some serious injury to the snake!

If you really want to use a tape trap, then you could try using painters/decorators/masking tape as it's a lot less sticky and much easier to remove if the snake gets stuck to it, with vegetable oil ;)

Good luck and I hope you find her :)

2.) Try the tape traps. Create a loose "ball" of duct tape and place it along the walls.

A painters tape or masking tape is a good idea. I wouldn't use duct tape, because that could create a bigger problem then you need. Too sticky and when you go to remove it, then you could seriously injure your snake.

Also, don't ball it up. Lay it down, face up, along walls and corners for the snake to slither over. Then snake will become tangled in it and remain where it is. Much easier to find. Also, if you have a heating pad, place it on the side of a small tank and lay it, heating pad side down, on the floor, in a cool area. Place tape traps around it and hopefully the snake will seek it out and become tangled.

Also, do a search for other traps and methods of finding your little one.

Good Luck with this and don't lose hope. You just never know!

OH NO! I am so sorry! I was just checking out your posts to find her progression thread. best of luck finding her. I don't want to sound morbid, but if she got into the ferret's cage, wouldn't there be a little bit of a mes? I have never had a ferret so I don't know how messy of eaters they are. I really hope that didn't happen.
Try all the suggestion here for traps. ANd good luck!

Thank you all for your suggestions, I will definitly try that cornmeal and masking tape trick. I've checked virtually everywhere in the room I kept her in and no where to be found. So I think she has ventured off into another room hopefully not though. Again thanks for your help and I will keep you posted

Well its almost been week or so now that she's been gone. I've set up numerous traps, checked the house at night with a flashlight (she has red eyes, they will shine), I've tried leaving food out in all my rooms. It seems like I've done everything. Another thing I forgot to mention was the night she got out my window was open and her cage is right below the window, I seriously think that she got outside, It seems like I've given up hope on her ever coming back. She was my first snake and I'm really depressed about this. I don't know why I was so stupid and didn't secure the cage even though she got out before, thank God I found her coiled up right below the cage. I don't even know what to do anymore. Thanks for listening I just needed to vent what I was feeling........

last time I had a snake get out it was coiled up behind a box under my bed keep up the hope I had one snake missing for 2 weeks and he turned up in my kitchen across the house. good luck.

Dont give up yet It may pass you by as your watching tv or you my see it in the bathroom at night

I'm trying to be positive...... but I don't want to keep waiting and waiting for something that might not happen...... I have a pretty good idea where she had gone, like I said outside. I wan't to get a new corn snake but not right away, but at the same time I don't want get a new one and then have Diabla show up with no prepared place for her........ I don't know what to do, God this is so stressful
