One eats more than the other

I have 2 corns. Both from the dame breeder, Both yearlings ('06) both females
the first an Amel female is quite a bit smaller than the other Anery female.
The Amel though eats like a pig. When we got her we bought a bag of small-med pinkies and she would eat 2 at a feeding
We then got the Anery and she will only take 1 period! The Amel is now eating 2-3 and eating well
Both are in separate feeders
Both fed covered to be on their own although for the Amel this is not an issue

Just curious if this is normal and should I just get rid of the pinkies and only feed something larger to them both

If they are big enough to take a fuzzy, and I would think they should be at a year old, I would try feeding them that.

I agree.. after some schooling here at the forum! Move up in prey size and offer just one larger item.

The "Munson Plan" discussed on the forum:

-Single pinks (2-3g) every 4-5 days. (Snake = 4-15g)
-Double pinks (3g x 2) every 4-5 days. (Snake = 16-23g)
-Small fuzzies (5-7g) every 5-6 days. (Snake = 24-30g)
-Regular fuzzies (7-9g) every 5-6 days (Snake = 30-50g)
-Hoppers (9-12g) every 5-6 days (Snake = 51-90g)
-Weaned (14-20g) every 7 days (Snake = 91-170g)
-Adult (24-30g) every 7-x days (Snake = 170+)
-Jumbo Adults (40-50g) every 7-x days (Snake = 400g+)

Great thanks I thought that should be the route but didnt want to waste nearly 70 pinks. Ill get fuzzies at the show in cleveland on the 16th of SEPT and just give the "SINGLE EATER" the largest of the lot and maybe feed more often. Have been on the 6 day cycle maybe Ill cut her back to every 4 or 5 days

I know what you mean about "wasting" wrong size food items... I have over 100 hoppers and my larger corns should now be eating adult mice. SO they are getting 3 hoppers at a pop. Luckily they don't have any problem with multiple food items. :grin01:

you know you guys could try selling them to us new corn owners. lol. I know I need a few more pinks, 70 is a bit much but yeah. Depending on where you all are you might find people to take feeders off your hands.

oh and to answer your question, each snake is diff. just like each person is. Some people like to eat more even if they are smaller, yes it's true, my tiny friend could out eat me anyday of the week and I (though im not that big but I make her look smaller) can EAT! Anyways, it's all up to the snake. How are you offering the second pinkie? At the same time as the other? After? It might just be the way you are doing it also. Could you please try to explain how you go about feeding your *single eater*?

Well w/ Holly (our first and the Amel and smaller of the 2 '06 females) I would just thaw out 2 in hot water straight from the tap and then plop them in her feeder cup, cover her up or place her under the couch and she would go to town and have them down in less than 10 min
With Sa (the second and Anery '06 female and considerably larger of the 2) I did the same thing. First time after we brough her home (about a week) she would not take them after about 30 min. so I warmed them and poked the head and put them in and she went right for one and let the other sit for about 3 hours.
Second feeding I just heated thawed then heated them and brained them and put in. She ate one pretty quickly (about 10-15 min later) and still did not eat the other after about 3 hours. I offered it to Holly who literally struck it right our of my fingers (little piggy)
No washing, no dipping in chicken etc..
By the way their names come from The land of the Lost series

I've got a big bag of pinks that no one is going to eat unless I get a hatchling...I'm keeping them just in case! You never know. Fuzzies are a little better to buy in bulk- at least there are some various sizes so you can sort them and use the smallest first.

Well Rodentpro is at the Cleveland show every Month and there are only the Sept, Oct and Nov listed for the remainder of the year here. I get them there at the show as they always have a sale and I can save $35 for the shipping alone. a 35 min drive (one way) and 1.5 roundtrip in TPK tolls is well worth the savings. Ill stick it out until the 16th and get a bag of fuzzies and one of Hoppers that way Im covered for a year or more. I can still throw in a pinkie for a little extra now and then right? (that way they dont go to waste?
Pics coming in about 30 min

Yes. I put 2 in each of the feeders. 2 in with Holly which she eats right down and 2 in with Sa of which she will only eat 1

Here are a few pics
Holly = Amel = Piggy
Sa = Anery = single eater

They both look healthy. And they are gorgeous!

My suggestions is, if Sa is only gonna eat one, either put a big pinky or a small fuzzy in with her so she gets the most from her one.

Thanks we think so too. I picked out Holly first after downloading TONS of photos of all the morphs and asking my wife which she wanted. Then our 7 y/o son picked out Sa and fell in love with her as he thought she looked so soft and she had the exact (nearly) marking on her head as Holly. He said that they MUST be sisters (same birth year, same breeder)

They do look great. I have an idea, it might not work but it's worth a shot. Rather then putting two pinks in at the same time put one in, wait till she eats it and moves it down so it looks like she is able to take another one and than offer her the second one. If that does not work then for the next feeding feed one in the AM and try another one in the PM. These are just ideas.

When you go to the show, ask the frozen mice guy to let you actually look at the sizes before you buy. I think fuzzies might be too small for those guys. Pick something that is one to one and a half times the snake's body diameter at the _widest_ part. It will look big.

Also, I don't think I'd feed twice in one day. That would require handling again and might cause a regurge. Some snakes just don't like to eat two mice! You _could_ try offering one, then when that one is down, offering a second one, heated up nice and hot.
