Ordering mice online?

Alaya

Crazy Alaskan
I am trying to figure out how to order frozen mice online for my new hatchling. The thing is I live in Alaska, so shipping is extremely expensive, so I would like to order as much as possible at once. I have a large chest freezer outside, which in the winter is around 10 to -50, so I can store a fair amount. How long can mice be frozen and remain in ideal condition? I am able to vacuum seal.

Next question is, how fast do corns change from one feed type to another? I am getting a new hatchling that has not ate yet, so how long will he be on pinks, then fuzzies, and hoppers and such? I plan to follow the munson method. I don't want to order twice as many pinkies as I need, then be stuck with wasted food. For ethical reasons, I don't think its right to waste any type of meat.

Third - I am looking at layne laboratories, but what other options are there to order from? Are there any in the pacific northwest, which would make shipping cheaper?

How long can mice be frozen and remain in ideal condition? For about one year maybe a little longer.

How fast do corns change from one feed type to another? How long will he be on pinks, then fuzzies, and hoppers and such? I plan to follow the munson method. I can only tell you what I would buy. I would buy 25 small pinkies incase I need them, 50 large pinky, 25 small fuzzy, 50 large fuzzy, 50 hopper that should get you threw the first year is I did the math right. I do not follow the Munson Plan so I am not the best person to answer this question.

Third - I am looking at layne laboratories, but what other options are there to order from? Are there any in the pacific northwest, which would make shipping cheaper? I can not answer that question. I live in the great state of TEXAS and I order mostly from Big Cheese because they are the closest to me(less shipping cost).

Not sure about location, but here are a few supplies you might want to check online: RodentPro, Mice Direct, The Mouse Factory, Big Cheese Rodent Factory.

Fatman's estimates look pretty close to what we went through...although I think we only did 50 fuzzies (there was a rather wide variety of sizes in the bag, so although we ordered small fuzzies, they weren't necessarily). Plus, you can always double up on smaller food if you're trying to work through a bunch. We double-pinked, fuzzy+pink and double-fuzzied if we had some left over.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've emailed the mouse factory and big cheese for estimates on shipping. I'll probably go with the mouse factory as long as their estimate is reasonable. Everyone else just sold such large packages I would have not used at least half of them. I plan to get more snakes in the future, but probably not for at least another year.

Thought I would post this here for anyone that is looking through archives with the search function-

Big Cheese only ships to airports in Alaska and is therefore extremely expensive. They have cheaper mice though, so it evens out in the end.

Layne Laboratories has very reasonable shipping rates, but very expensive mice, so they are a bit on the more expensive end.

I went with The Mouse Factory. They responded to all of my questions extremely quickly and have a $25 dollar shipping surcharge to Alaska. This made my order about $75 for shiping the amount of mice that were recommended by Fatman above. This put their price at a very reasonable level, and cheaper than buying locally. They have very good reviews online, so i am sure their quality will be great.

RodentPro is excellent. Quality is top notch!! They're prices are much cheaper than you would find in most brick n mortar places.....even after shipping. I did notice they ship to Alaska as well.

RodentPro is probably great, but their packages of smaller mice, like pinkies, are 100 each, so too large for an owner of a single snake. I may look at them when I need to buy adults next year.
