We just got this rack put together today! We started patching up all holes and sanded it down. Now all we need to do is throw some paint on it install heating and we're good to go!!! This is the our first time building one! I'm looking forward to the finished result! :santa:

Way to go building it yourself, so much more economical. If I ever get to the point of needing a rack I would build one too.

Thanks! We're not even close to being done! A hatchling rack is our next project! lol =) Building it yourself costs you so much less money rather than buying one!

Absolutely, I've been building my own for years now. The best part is you design it yourself and as the years go buy you come up with better ideas to improve your designs.

Excellent job!

There are so many things that you can build or make instead of buying them, it's crazy. I had wood-shop in jr high and high school. I a made a bookself for like 16 bucks :D

Very nice! And so tall-looking! I think I'd need a ladder to access the top bin, but then again, I'm a shortie. xD I'm getting the finishing touches on my first rack, too. It's exciting building you own, isn't it? Very rewarding!

Yes! Its very exciting! I cant wait untill its finnished so we can use it lol! And yes its really tall! I think its 7 feet tall.... and im 5'.... I'm definitly going to need a ladder of some sort! LOL

That looks great. I wish I was handy so I could build a rack, but alas, I am NOT handy that way.

Very cool! Definitely the right route to go with building them yourself. Can't wait to make mine with my dad this summer!

That is so cool! I think that would be just about perfect for me. WANT! :laugh: You guys did a great job on it. I'm leaning toward building one of my own instead of buying one. The only issue for me is how to heat it.

lol! I'm going to heat the rack with either 4" or 11" flexwatt heating tape. I think we might go with the 11". We still have to order those, probably will in a couple days or so! And yes this rack is made for adult corns =)

Looks great! I wish my rack had solid sides, I'd love to paint them some thing cool! Like a jungle scene with snakes and stuff... *daydreams* one day, one day

Just out of curiosity, will you be able to heat the whole rack using 1 thermostat, or will each shelf have to be heated separately? (I'm a noob to the rack building side of things, so I figure it couldn't hurt to ask.)

Haha!! That's so funny that you said that because we were actually thinking about painting some cornsnakes on the sides of the rack! Making it a corn snake jungle theme...but unfortunately we don't have a snake room so this rack is going in the living room.... we decided to paint it white! Plain and simple! lol!

Don't mean to hijack the thread -- I believe you can heat the whole rack with one thermostat as long as the amount of wattage of the combined heat tape doesn't exceed the maximum wattage allowed by the thermostat. I have my rack (6 tiers) heated with heat tape that is connected in a parallel direction and all 6 foot-long pieces of heat tape are connected to one power cord and the combined wattage of the tape is around 75-80 watts or so. :}

Well i would suggest to heat every shelf separately that way if one of the snakes either gets sick or something happens and you need to raise temps, you wont have to raise all of the rows temperatures! Just that one shelf! It gives you more control with heating. Unfortunately this was our first to build so we made the mistake of putting this rack together without giving us the ability to supply separate heating source! So this rack will just have one thermostat controlling the temperature of all rows. :uhoh:
