Our New Tarantula! Indian Ornamental!

Hey there!

I found this on a local site and my boyfriend is HUGE into Tarantulas and I thought he would love it, so I got it for him. :D
He was thrilled!

So I had to take some pictures of the lovely little lady to show off to everyone.
I believe it is called an Indian Ornamental Baboon...

I took this picture with my hand behind so you kind of get the idea how big she really is!

Isn't she purty??!!

EXTREMELY GORGEOUS!!! I absolutely love everything Poecilotheria. She is gorgeous and reminds me of the one that I had... BIG, FAST, MEAN and BEAUTIFUL!

She looks awesome and healthy. Her viv looks great too! One of the things I found out about these guys is that while arboreal, they really DO love to dig into the substrate. When mine wasn't in her "tree" she could often be found 3 inches under the substrate! LOL.

Unfortunately, they're not allowed in my house anymore. Kids and wife are deathly afraid of them. LOL.

BTW, I've never heard them called "baboon" T's. There is an "ornamental baboon tarantula" but as far as I know there "baboon" isn't part of the Indian Ornamental Tarantula name (Poecilotheria regalis). Just FYI.

Seeing one again makes me VERY envious.... :nope:

Very Cool!!!

But... if I were you I would NOT hold that tarantula! They are very, very, fast and from what I heard their bite is one of the most painful.

VERY TRUE... On a website similar to this, there are reports of some very severe reactions to bites from this species... One of the reasons I had to give them up...

Yeah, I'm on a tarantula forum and one of the members posted a link to a man that was bit by an Indian Ornamental. It wasn't pretty at all, the swelling was horrible, and the man said the pain was the worst he ever felt.

That is a goregous tarantula. I love looking at spiders but would never own one after a spider put me in the hospital, lol. Congrats on your new beauty.

Lol, thanks! We happened to get it for really cheap too, because the guy we got it from is getting out of the hobby. We just got lucky with that. lol.
And yea, I have no intentions of holding it, lol.
The_Thunderer, thanks for clearing up the name... I don't know much about Tarantulas, save for their basic care. :S I know we had some kind of orangy babboon T before, man was that thing vicious!! It would literally flip itself onto it's back and jab it's fangs up at you!! :S Eeesh!

Right now we also have 3 Rose Hair Ts, Green Bottle Blue, Mexican Red Knee, Some kind of Trapdoor spider and a Salmon Pink Bird Eater. :D

Gorgeous and congrats! Thanks for sharing the pics.

You have one too, Brent? Man... Or was that just a jab??? LOL! That's just mean, man! :bang:

You had an OBT (Orange Bitey Thingy)? They're absolutely KEWL! Mine would do the same as well. Gave him to a great gal who lives north of here.
Sounds like you've got a great collection of spiders. I've owned all you mentioned except for the trapdoor... Do you ever see it? Those guys are mostly "pet dirt" (not even a "pet hole") because it is hard to find their "trapdoor". LOL.

NICE COLLECTION!!!! Very kewl!

Sorry for the DP, but I missed this...

Oh, yeah... didn't he say he felt the after affects for about a week after??? Maybe 2?

NEVER get bit by this spider!!

Oh wow... my hands are definitely staying out of that tank. :S I'm allergic to almost everything so if I got bitten I'm sure it would be really bad. :S
And yea, we gave our Orange Bitey Thing (lol) away... It was just a little too freaky, :S And yes, the Trapdoor Spider is a pet Jar of Dirt, lol. We rarely, if ever see it. :S I've only seen the darn thing once, lol. They are really ugly though. :S

The Poecilotheria family are possibly the most renowned T family for their venom. Leaving pain aside, these things can get you killed.
Just be careful.
Aside from that, that's probably the best looking T I have seen in ages.
Best of luck :)

Oh for a second I thought you were crazy enough to be handing that pookie LOL!

Shes gorgeous, I wish I had the nerves to keep ornamentals. I much prefer my fluffy purple and pink avics LOL!

The second I saw the pictures I swear I thought I felt something in my hair.

I just have something against huge spiders, I blame the fangs, you can see them oh so clearly.

Both . . . :wavey:

Ouch, Brent... now you're being downright mean!!! LOL. Love all of them. The Psalmos... if there were ONE group that I could keep it would be P. irminia, P. pulcher and P. cambridgei (sp?). They're just too kewl... and lightning fast!!!

Those are some nice spiders, Brent. Kudos!!

Got other pics of your other T's Lestette? I'd love to see them!!!
