Overly Agressive snake

Hi,
I am new to owning snakes and am kind of worried about the behavior of my snake recently. I got my snake at the pet store about 3 months ago and was feeding him pinkies. Hes gotten much bigger so i was told to feed him 2. I fed him 2 pinkies for the first time before i left for a vacation of 10 days. When i returned i fed him 2 more pinkies but his behavior was much different. When i put the firsst pinkie in the cage he striked it which is what he would normally do but instead of proceeding to eat it he curled up around it and started shaking his tail which I have never seen him do before. When ever i got near the tankhe would strike out at the walls. I then dropped the other pinkie in but he ignored it and just kept looking at me in a position ready to strike. then I went to go dangle the mouse in front of him. When i stuck teh tongs in he struck at them and when i picked up the mouse he struck again but ignored the mouse. Later I left him and the mouse was gone when i came back.

I am worried about how much his behavior has changed. He was never agressive like this before.

KZR22 I have noticed similar things with some of my snakes. Sometimes if you leave for a long time that they are not used to and you handle them often they will be slightly off. Handle him every other day for 5-10 minutes and he should go back to normal. If you really wanna learn some really cool things about corns read Kathy Loves book.

I think David hit it on the head. All of the behaviors you mention would just indicate he was nervous. Frequent handling will solve that.

You did the right thing by the way. When you are trying to feed but the snake is being defensive, the best thing to do is put the mouse in and leave it alone.

One tactic I have used with overly aggresive Black Rat Snake hatchlings (relative of corns) is letting them actually bite me on the finger and they kinda get this look on thier face like "Wait why isn't this huge white predator trying to kill me! I guess he is not trying to hurt me!" then they soon realize I am bringer of all things rodent and bird! Hope this helps!
Regards,
D
