Pairing recommendation??

Aida's the name!
So I've been trying to get this genetics thing down and understood but I think I may only be confusing myself even more.

Anyways, I have 2 snakes. Both are female. I have a Hypo Stripe and an Anery. Both don't have any hets that I know of.

If you were me and you wanted to breed these 2 snakes in a couple years when they were ready and you understood what you were doing, what would you breed them to?

Both of my girls are still too young and are no where near the 3.3.3 rule/recommendation. I am however interested in picking them up a little boyfriend either in June when the reptile show comes to san diego or from a breeder on here.

So if I was looking to get something other than just all normals in a clutch, what is something good you would pair with either one of my girls?

Thanks for any input. I was looking to get another snake but wasn't sure of what I wanted to get. Figured I'd go with something that could do for a fun little side project in the future.

Your signature lists Alcedonia as being an anery het motley, but I'll ignore that and try to select a male that I personally would use for both females to get some interesting hatchlings in not only the F1 generation, but also the F2...AND not use your entire tax refund in purchasing...a ghost stripe comes to mind immediately and would give you hypo stripes het anery when bred to the hypo stripe, and anerys het hypo stripe when bred to the anery (and if she is het motley, would produce anery motleys het hypo stripe). If you get a ghost stripe known het amel, you can test both your females and possibly get amels and snows as well in the F1, and definitely in the F2. The chances that at least one female is het amel is actually very good as amel is extremely common. And it wouldn't surprise me if your hypo stripe is het anery as well. Plus...ghost stripes are GORGEOUS!

Great suggestion Susan.

And yes... Ghost stripes ARE gorgoeous. I recommend talking with "Ghosthousecorns" aka "Jen". She's great and has some absolutley beautiful ghost stripes! :D

When writing the post I omited that she was het motley because I don't know if its 100% true. I bought her from Amazon reptiles near my house and the worker there told me that she knew she was het motley because it was one that she had hatched. Yet I thought that snakes het for motley had no belly checkers and Alcy does have belly checkers. I dont know. maybe i'm mistaken about that. either way, i didn't want it to be a factor incase it wasn't true.

thanks for your suggestion though. I'll definately look into it. Any others you might be able to think of?

There are no "het markers" for motley. A het motley would have belly checks, just like a normal would. It is the homozygous motley that has a clear belly (just like the homozygous stripe),

No het markers for motley. Gotcha! Yeah, I wasn't too sure about it.

So would a Ghost Stripe be the only good match for the both of them both?

Totally agree with Susan here & my 1st response for your 2 females would be a Ghost Stripe.

There are other alternatives but they may not provide the interesting hatchlings of the Ghost Stripe in the f1 / f2 generations, dependant upon the female genetics.

For instance:

Hypomelanistic Stripe
Snow Stripe
Coral Snow Stripe
or any of the above in the Motley form.

The Coral Snow Stripe is an ideal choice, depending on availability.

He is, not only, an interesting visual contrast to your females but also, he will prove out the Amelanistic gene in either female.

Regards Lex

Thanks for your suggestions. I've been typing them into a calculator to try and figure out the outcomes but I'm just kinda confusing myself a bit more. Good thing I have a long time to study and be prepared before I actually do this. :D

I agree with the others, see if you can find a ghost stripe, and if possible get one that is het for amel. Good luck.

Yup that's what I've decided to look for. So if anyone will be hatching out a ghost stripe het amel, feel free to let me know!! =]

Ghost stripe or snow stripe are great choices!! A little more $$$, but a granite het stripe/motley would also be a cool pairing if you can find one.
