Patience and Research

Hello! I am a new member and a future corn snake owner. I care a lot about animals, so I've accepted the fact that I will not be able to have my own cornsnake for about 2-3 years. I'm self employed in the real estate investment business, so I'm going back to school for a certificate in Dental Assisting so I can have a better future for myself and my future corn buddy. Also, my current household is unfortunately a snake-free zone; I'll have to be settled in my own home in order to have my little buddy. So, patience and research it is! (I'm going to be "testing my knowledge" of my research in the Husbandry/Care thread since I feel it is more relevant there rather than just an introduction.)

Why a corn snake, one might ask? I think it is the perfect sized snake for someone like me. I'm a 5'6" female, so I'd rather not take a chance and get overwhelmed by a much larger snake. I'm a first time reptile owner. I fell in love with my friend's Red Tail but I know that getting a Red Tail would just be too much snake for me. That and... the morphs are overwhelming and amazing! I had no idea how many varieties there were! For some reason, Motleys (especially the Anery and Caramel) have captured my heart.

I'm so glad that I will become a future cornsnake owner and doubly glad that I found this forum! I might not be responding much on the threads, but I just can't resist the Photo threads! :D The progression threads are so awesome!

Thank you for the time reading this and I hope to become friends with many awesome corn lovers, both new and experienced!

I'm gunna bet that you will get your snake much sooner than you anticipate ;)

But welcome to the forum! Good on you for doing the research well ahead of time.
I started getting interested in snakes in June or July of 2013, and had my first in mid August... so I applaud you for taking your time!

Thanks :D and you never know, if my real estate investments go very well, I may be able to settle down quicker and still go to college! :)

Thanks, nice to meet you :) I can't wait for my little, and all I want is the best for him/her! I'm glad that a forum like this is here for guidance!

Thanks!! I hope I can find a local/New England breeder, but I've been looking at vmsherp.com as a good option. The breeder (Sean) has great reviews!

Always a good idea researching the breeder you're going to buy from. You sound like you'll be a great snake parent. I knew nothing about snakes and jumped somewhat blindly into the reptile world. I didn't even learn about corn snakes until about 2 yrs ago. Then decided to expand my reptilian family with corns.

Thank you!! How did you find out about corn snakes?

Be carful of vms. A friend of mine had geckos from him with missing tails and minor deformities like missing toes.

Oh god that's terrible! Thanks for the warning!

I've never heard of anyone having a problem with VMS's snakes, my phantoms are from them, but they did have a pretty big issue with their geckos a awhile ago. Don't know if you have already seen it, it is Sticky'd several places. The Board of Inquiry is hosted on Faunaclassifieds and is the place to go to check out the reputations of anyone you are considering doing business with.

Very welcome. I was contemplating getting a second King snake and in looking at the different varieties (which were actually milk snakes) I learned about a few corn morphs (Miami) which had similar colors to some milks. I dug a bit more and found this group along with tons of morphs that blew my mind. I was hooked and had to get a corn, especially after reading what great temperaments they have. I found my first corn, Lt. Dan my amel (which passed untimely) through Craigslist. I was hooked since and found my favorite morph buckskin okeetees and so many others I wish I could collect. :)

I'll have to check the BOI, thanks for the reply! Ooh, phantoms are so pretty!

It's crazy how a bit of digging reveals a treasure :D I'm still learning about new morphs! For some reason I can't stop thinking about caramel motleys!!
