Pele seems hungrier, advice please!

Hey all,

My sweet 3 year old snake Pele is a great feeder, always gets her mouse every 10-14 days. Usually eats up, then I put her back in her tank and she crawls into her warm cave for at 3-4 days digesting. Normally doesn't start any of her "hunting" behaviors before day 7 or 8.

Recently she's been seeming, well, unsatisfied. Now I feed her an adult thawed mouse, and within a day or two she was out of her cave doing her typical "hunting" behavior..rooting around, digging, pushing her nose up on the top of her cage, curling around her water bowl (which transforms to her feeding bowl out of the cage).

I know that corns can be little pigs, and don't want to over-feed her. My other thought is maybe she's hungrier b/c it's Spring & the whether is starting to warm up.

...or maybe I need to give her something bigger? The petstore where I get her mice does offer rat pups.

FYI: she's about 3 years old, 3+ feet, not sure her weight.

Thanks for your input!

Are you positive she's a female? males, especially, get restless this time of year.

Well, there's nothing sadder than an obese cornsnake. I'd probably be feeding her every ten days, if she's a female. A nice 25g adult mouse. It doesn't hurt her to be out actively searching for food.

What Nanci said.

Just because they act like they want more food, doesn't mean that they actually need it. An adult Corn doesn't need to eat anything bigger than an adult mouse, at (in my opinion) a minimum of ten day intervals.

My cat spent 80% of her waking time begging for food - she still only got two meals a day, with a (very) occasional healthy treat. You don't feed other pets on demand, so don't be fooled into it by a Corn looking plaintively at you and acting like they're on the verge of starvation, when they clearly aren't!
