Persephone escaped 4 days ago!

I've been kind of embarassed to say something, but I have to get suggestions. I've been doing searches on escapees and how to get them back, and I've looked everywhere. I've put painters' tape along the walls. I put bottle traps in several places. I'm starting to really panic at this point because I feel like she could have gotten into the walls or down the drains somehow.

My thought is this, though. If I do manage to get her to notice the mice in bottles around the house, how do I get her to stay in the bottles. It just seems like she'd crawl right back out as she is so tiny (only about 4 mos. old and about 10 g). Any other suggestions about luring her out from where ever she is? Because she's certainly no where I can physically look. I've looked in all those places.

First, a question. You did cut the tops off the bottle and tape it back on inverted, right? If you did, the snake probably won't be able to find its way out no matter how small the snake is.

Another trick I have read about people using is, put down paper or aluminum foil around all the baseboards and cover with a thin layer of flour. This will show the movement of any snake in that area since most snakes will travel along the outer edge of the room.

Good luck! Don't be embarrassed, this happens to many, many people. Keep us updated.

I did cut the tops off and invert them, but it just seems like if she found her way out of her viv, which I can't even figure out how she did that, surely she'll climb right out of the bottle. Also, I've heard flour is more of a mess than a help. Any thoughts?

Once the snake is in the bottle, it is gonna search all along the outer edge of the bottle to find a way out. I think given a lot of time, it may find the way out of the bottle. But if you are checking it daily, or multiple times a day, I don't think it would have enough time. Plus if there is a mouse in the bottle and the snake eats, it will probably just relax and hang out.

I have never had to use the flour trick. I am sure it is messy. But I have read several post on here where it has been successful.

Good luck finding him. Chances are he is sitting not too far aware quite snug. Continue with the bottles, baited, and the flour and tape and hopefully you'll find him very soon :)

My butter has escaped a few time, two times when from the feeding bag ( I've change that since) and once from the unlock Viv. But each time It was very close to where it escaped. So recheck everthing. :shrugs:

I know that feeling when you think youve done everything. I found mine under another tank in the room. I completely threw all the garbage out and tore up the furniture! He's probably somewhere where you would least expect to check.

Good luck!

I have had 3 escape in my history. One was actually found in the dishwasher happy and unscathed, one in the shower track (before I even knew he was missing) and one I actually found after his shed skin was on top of a laundry hamper. I found him under the clothes! All three of these hatchlings escaped as soon as the weather got cold. I figured out later that my lidless rack which had been installed on nearly the hottest day of summer (with no a/c in the house) had loosened in the cold weather....just enough for an entourage of escapes. It has been fixed ;)

Still missing

I'm running out of ideas and getting very discouraged. I've set up areas of heat all over and put snake traps there. There's just been no sign of her...when should I give up? I can't be leaving dead mice around the house for the rest of my life...Any novel ideas? How can I look under the fridge or in between the walls? Any thoughts on that?

well looking under the fridge (which is warm by the way) could be as simple as pulling off the grate on the front bottom (under the door) and looking under with a flashlight.
IF you dont see anything then you should be able to carefully roll the fridge straight out and check in and around the coil (covering the back of the fridge) or in the small coompressor access area (bottom rear)

Good luck

Sadly, no. I kind of knew I wouldn't find her because, for the few weeks I had her, I could tell how willful she was. She was not a snake to just go somewhere and sit there and hide. She was more like, "I hate you, and as God is my witness you will never see me again!!" Unfortunately, she only hurt herself that way...I don't even know how she got out, to this day. She was just like that. Lupe's never escaped, never. (Knock on wood). Sigh.

Well sounds like you need a replacement! How about a hatchling bloodred or some yearlings? LoL.

Guadalupe, don't give up hope yet... I was devestated that my ball python got loose and I dreaded each day that went by and thought for sure after two months that I starting to realize that I wasn't going to ever see her again. Try some of these ideas:

http://www.anapsid.org/escapedsnake.html

This is what I said in a thread on 3/17/07:

"Mine is also missing. She's been gone for about 3 weeks and I'm sooo scared that she's goin' to thirst to death. She's done this one other time before and I found her a week later at 2am behind the bathroom garbage can. Thank you so much for that reply on this one. When you said that you found her 5 months later I really did feel alot better that she won't thirst to death since it's only been 3 weeks since she found her way out of the cage. But I'm still very worried the cat is goin' to get her, etc.

If you have any suggestions at all for me please reply as fast as possible. Thanks so very much.

Very scared the cat is goin' to find her first yikes.... mind you, this cat is 18 years old and has ate escapee's before.

Desperate,

Joanne (lil_rab2005)"

I finally found her and here is the thread I started after I found her (I overexaggerated it, it was only 2 months and a week I think but close enough lol):

I wish you luck, don't give up. By now, if it's still ok, you are going to find it around water or something like that. Most likely the bathroom. Each time we found her it was late at night behind the toilet lol. Good luck,

Lil. :)
