petco

Depends on what you want. I have two I got at petco and they are great. Of course I don't know the hets and didn't know the sex when I got them. I have a beautiful amel male (from Petco) and determined this year he is shooting blanks as the females I have put him with have never laid a fertile egg. The Normal female from Petco laid 12 big beautiful eggs this year no problems, babies were fine. I would go with breeder if you can and it is usually cheaper then Petco.

Here's the thing: there are good Petco stores and bad Petco stores. But it's all one big corporation. Give your money to a good Petco store, and the bad ones still benefit. So I say, no-- don't buy from Petco. Find a reputable breeder who is local, or find a reputable breeder to ship a snake to you.

ok....i think i will take a look around and unless i see one i just have to (save)...then ill probably do a breeder

You have to save??? The way Dean explains it is very good, if you mean save it from being in Petco you are contributing to them mis-treating animals, not saving a snake.

Just a thought, and I'll preface this by saying I'm no snake expert, but I see some correlations to fish keeping. A lot of beginning fish keepers will find out how terribly the fish are kept at some chain pet stores and want to "save" them. But because they are new at keeping fish they get in over their heads--they don't have the experience to deal with the special requirements or the equipment and supplies to deal with a sick, extremely large, or generally difficult to care for fish. So as a bit of advice--if this is your first snake try to get the healthiest one possible and leave the "saving" to someone who has more experience. You'll enjoy your pet more.
Just my 2 cents!

See rocker, if you see a snake that is in bad conditions, and needs "saving", and you buy it, you are basically telling Petco that you approve of the way they treat snakes, because you gave them money. What Petco will do is take your money and buy more snakes that they can mistreat.

If you go with a breeder, you will get a healthy, parasite-free, feeding, properly sexed baby in nearly any color you can imagine!

The first corn I had was from a PetCo store. I was still living with my parents at the time, and they didn't like the idea of ordering from someone I met on the internet, and they were concerned about shipping and what-not. I ended up with a lovely amel from petco, and she did just fine while I kept her. I had to give her up though when I went to college.

But anyway, I agree with previous statements... most pet store chains don't take as well of care of their animals. It would be much better for all parties involved if you bought from a reputable breeder.

my boyfriend and i got our baby corn from petco, about a month ago. lol don't know what kind or the sex of it yet, but it's doin good so far. we picked this one because it was the only one who had eaten anything yet, and is still a good eater and just finished a shed. i have heard horror stories about places like petco and petsmart (AFTER we got ours, of course), but we're keeping our fingers crossed that our baby is fine :)

I got our first 2 corn snakes from Petco.
They are doing just GREAT, no problem at all..
I only had Alex for over couple months and Ophion for
about 3 weeks...but I haven't seen Ophion shed yet.

It's one thing to buy a snake from petco, I would ask and see if they have any snake up for adoption first. That way there not a petco snake.
Thats how I cot my corn snake was an adoption from petco.

Its not like they have them there all the time. It's only when someone randomly brings one in. So don't get your hopes up too much on that aspect.

If you go in often you will get to know the snake people at petco they will also let you know if they have any or will keep an eye out for you?
I got lucky on mine it just came in the day before.
But I agree they don't have them all the time.

Hmm, i would check it out.
I am not getting my hopes up, I just didn't know.
All I know about adoption center where they only have cats.

Its not the adoption center thing, these are just pets brought back by owners.
They usually keep the reptiles they receive up for adoption in the back room because they need heat.
So just ask whenever you go in if they have any herps for adoption.

Not always Stregone, but they prefer it.
Least ways not at the petco I worked at plenty of times we got the animal without the set up, and we could never understand why, because if they were getting rid of the animal why keep the home...

Well its policy as far as I know. Keeps people from getting rid of something when it gets too big or whatever and turning around and buying another one.
