pics too big?

I have tried several times and several things to post pics on the picture topic for corns, just to show a few of my collection. but it says my pics are too big. I have tried downloading to a smaller size, editing pics, nothing seems to work. I am not real good on the puter, can anyone help me with what I need to do?

If you are uploading pics from your computer, and you have microsoft paint, then it's pretty easy to get them small enough. Open a picture in paint, then click on Image up in the menu at the top of the screen. A new menu will pop up, then click on Stretch/Skew. Then you can reduce the size of the pic by making the number in the Horizontal and the Vertical lower, but always make them the same number as each other or the picture will get distorted. The max size pic you can upload here is 800x800 pixels, and you can check the size of your picture by clicking on Image in the menu and then click on Attributes.
 
Just to add to that, if you want a picture as an avatar, (Under your sign in name) that has a maximum size of 160 x 160.
