Pictures Needed for Calendar

CornCrazy

What's one more???
Well, once again I am going to try to put together a calendar. I made one for myself for this year, but haven't done one to sell. I actually put mine together with pictures of different snake species, but I am intending to do just a corn snake one. It was very costly to make one last year, so I am hoping to be able to decrease the cost by not doing full color images. I got the idea from VinnyJ. I am hoping to do an 18 month calendar (July 2007-December 2008).

If anyone would like to have a picture put in the calendar, please e-mail them to me at snakelady @ comcast.net (be sure to remove the spaces before and after the @ symbol). Here are the requirements.

1. They need to be photoshopped (grey scale background, colored snake).
2. Other photoshopping my be done as long as rule #1 is followed.
3. No text on the images, please. Credit will be given in the calendar for images used.
4. Images need to be a minimum of 800 x 600 pixels. If larger, they need to be the same proportions (2856 x 2142, 2000 x 1500, 1500 x 1125, 1125 x 844, etc.). The larger the picture, the better the clarity! Any images that do not fit this guideline will be altered as needed.
5. Please send your name, website name, website url, and contact info with your picture.
6. Please send morph info, too.
7. Other guidelines may be added as needed.

Here are a couple of example pics:

Why don't you post for those of us that don't know. :dunce:

For those of you that don't own Photoshop here's a free Photoshop-like alternative that I've been using:

the Gimp: http://www.gimp.org/

Download the GIMP: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
There are two pieces to download and install.
- the GIMP installer
- GTX package for your version of Windows.

Tutorial on selective coloring with the GIMP: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Selective_Color/

Here's one created with... the GIMP. oh yeah... I cheated by making the black and white background a few shades darker
biggrin.gif
. It makes those bright colors pop out even more.

Credit goes to Lore for this post, she posted it on another forum..

I use Photoshop

I opened the picture file, changed it to a Greyscale image, (it asks are you sure you want to discard the color information, you say yes) then after that I switch it back to RGB COLOR, and use the Image History Paint Brush and just paint the areas I want the color to come back.

Thanks Lore! :wavey:

i thought it turned out really nicely- it reminds me of those desturated kids holding roses pictures... maybe cause she's so red in contrast with the grey?

PM me if it's the kind of thing you want in your calendar?
i just thought i'd try out the techinique, it's not pro-quality or anything :)

Thanks guys!

Lore helped me to learn how to do this, also. I found out that when using PhotoShop, you can simply desaturate the image and use the history brush to bring the color back to the snake. It saves a step that way.

man, the morw i look at it the more amazed i am- I didn't make her actual colours brighter or anything.... not to blow my own horn or anything, but i have one awesome snake!

but then everyone thinks that, don't they?

It's a great picture!

For future reference, please e-mail the larger pictures to me instead of posting them here. It makes it harder for people to view the thread if there are huge pictures in it.

Thanks!

I do it completely differently. I use the magic wand tool and select the bits I want greyscaled and then desaturate it. It means I can accuratley select what needs changed and what doesnt.

What program do you use?

Whatevers open at the time. I usually always have some sort of photo program open. But I use adobe photoshop pro, MX fireworks and paint shop pro religiously, and a couple others that are a bit crap :p

To be honest I dont actually KNOW how to use any of these programs properly. I just do things and it comes out the way I never imagined - I stop when I like it. :shrugs:

I have tried that before and it got really annoying because many pics have SO many different colors and it doesn't choose what I want it to choose! I think it is easier to just paint the snake back to the proper color.

Your right... But I like doing things the hard way ;)

I use the magic wand and lasso tools religiously though :grin01:

Here's a few of my attempts:

Here are the links to a few of mine:

Don't laugh too much, I'm new at this photo-editing thing, it's really addictive. We're having a snowday here at the University of Illinois for the first time since 1979 so I've had a little time to play with my pictures today.

Thanks for the Credit ;) I never really would have done any had it not been for seeing the one Vinny did

These are ones I had posted on another forum, the first one is being used in the Calendar :crazy02:
