Pinkies 3 - Sissaphus 0

Well, a warmed pinkie in a small warm dark space failed. Left it there for 6 1/2 hours but still opened it up to find Sissaphus coiled up next to it in blissful ignorance. He's now refused three feeds (one attempt every four days), so thats 13 days to my knowledge alone. Will try braining next on Thursday. Is that a reasonable time to try again, or should I try sooner, or later?

Any advice on how long to leave between each attempt would be much appreciated.

I know from reading up that this is pretty common, but I am new to all this so can't help worrying!

Thanks guys

Weve had the same thing occasionally with one of ours.

What worked for us was making sure the tank was nice and warm on feeding day and leaving a pink which had a small snip on the top of its head to let some juice out , right next to the entrance of his hide overnight. By morning it had gone on both occasions.

Im not sure if its a general thing , but ours seem to want to feed more late evening rather than during the day.

Try a live pink. It often makes all the difference. Also, put the snake in a VERY small container with nothing but a paper towel and the food item. Works wonders, I use a deli cup, but any small tupperware (well-ventilated) should do. As a last resort, rub a lizard onto the pink before offering. I also suggest at least three or four days for non-feeders, seven to ten for regurgers. Good luck, and remember, if you can get him to take just ONE live pink, he will likely eat frozen readily for the next feedings.

Thanks for the advice folks, esp elrojo - the amount of time between attempts was what I was really looking for. Wanted to make sure that four days was an OK length of time as I was worried that maybe I should be trying more often with a nonfeeder. Cheers Chip. Will keep you posted.

Also

something you can try. I have had a fair amount of success putting the snake in a small paper (very small) bag with the pinky, rolling the bag good shut and placing the bag into the viv overnight. (this way if the snake manages to get out of the bag, you don't loose the snake) For some reason a lot of the 'finicky' babies seem to like this - I have had more than a 50% success rate with this method. Just a thought on something else to try.
