Pinky size for hatchlings ?

Hi,

Rodentpro sells:
Extra Small Pinkies Weight (Grams): 1.30 - 1.80
Small Pinkies Weight (Grams): 1.90 - 2.40
Large Pinkies Weight (Grams): 2.50 - 3.00

I'm planning to buy some for hatchlings, obviously I will buy a bag of extra small for their first meals.

Does anyone have experience with their sizing and how many meals I can figure each hatchling will need of the Extra Small before graduating to the Small, and etc.

I'm thinking after a half dozen of one size, a month or so will have elapsed, and they could probably go to the next size?

Thanks!
Rob

The size of the food item depends on the size of the snake. In most cases Corn Snakes can eat small pinkies for their first meal. So I'd skip the "extra small" size. The thickness of the widest part of the snake should be about the same as the width of the food item you are feeding it.

I would simply order the Small pinkies.

The bag will almost certainly contain a variety of sizes and you can just pick through for the smaller ones to feed first, then move up to the larger ones (and eventually even 2x the larger ones) as they grow.

I was wondering the same thing, lol.

Good to know I can skip ordering the extra small pinky size ;)

Sounds good, thanks for the advice!
I was thinking the same, whatever size you order, there are always some that are a little smaller.

Extra small (reds) are nice for when you move to double pinks, if you don't use them all up initially. OTOH, you can always cut regular pinks in half, or just cut the head off, for a smaller snake who isn't quite ready for them.

Well, I am putting the cart before the horse, counting my pippies before they're hatched! :)
But IF I get a second clutch... :)
I will probably buy 1 bag of extra small and 1 bag of large pinkies.
If I only have 1 clutch, I'm thinking I will buy the in-between size, 1 bag of small.

Does that make any sense? Or should I be ordering more? Queen Wrath laid 19 eggs, and I'm hoping for a clutch from Jenny eventually. Should I be ordering more than 2 bags of pinkies if I end up with 2 medium-large clutches (30-40 babies)? I will probably keep less than 5 of them for raising, since I have no reason to expect anything other than normals...
